BLACKBURN Rovers are hoping to discover in the next 24 hours if Tugay has decided to accept a new 12-month contract.

The veteran Turk is set to become a free agent this summer but manager Mark Hughes has offered him terms for next season, and the Rovers chief hopes he will be lured by the chance to take his first steps into coaching.

"We've made Tugay an offer but we haven't heard back from him as yet," said chairman John Williams.

"Essentially, it's a playing role but there could also be an opportunity for him to move into coaching, with Mark and his staff keen to help him with that side of things."

It is believed that Rovers have offered the 37-year-old what effectively amounts to a pay-as-you-play deal; he will get a low basic but then receive extra appearance money on top.

However, the prospect of starting his coaching career under Hughes' expert guidance could ultimately prove to be the deal clincher.

The midfielder, who believes he can still play on at Premier League level for at least one more season, is reported to have said: "If I had to leave (Rovers) it would be like leaving home and part of my family. I want to stay. The club is very special to me.

"It's like my second family and I have tremendous respect for everyone associated with it, but especially the fans as I feel we have a special relationship.

"I still feel fitter than ever and know I have a lot to offer the team.

"Not only on the field but as a senior player I feel it is important to help the younger players.

"I feel very happy here and in an ideal world I would finish my career as a Blackburn player.

"I have seen this club grow a lot and would like to continue to help with this development."

Now then i know i will get LOADS of abuse for this idea, BUT am gunna say this anyway. When Hughes does go to UTD as manager, we will need to replace him....its not rocket science, so why not give it to someone who loves the club, loves the fans, fans and players and youth players for that respect AND is one of the best players EVER to have graced the home of the gods..........yep the one and only "OUR TURKISH DELIGHT"...

If he can learn and adapt to coaching, then why not let him have a go at being our next manager. Now before you all jump on the band wagon and say "well he aint got any experience of management" neither did Sparky for Wales and look what he did for them and we all know what he has done for the Rovers!!!

What do you think????

Lets hope he agrees terms and his love affair with his 'second familiy' continues for many a year to come.

Lets face it the regular bloggers on this site have agreed that this kind of deal would be the best for all concerned.

A next manager of the Rovers in the making?

Well as ive said before continuity is the key to our long term success and you need someone who knows the club inside out should Hughes ever leave. The Turkish Delight ticks all the boxes....i only fear that we would become the newcastle of ten years ago....if they score 5 we'll score 7...all from outside the box!

A Rovers Legend!

Tugay is a legend, a great player & loyal to Blackburn which in this day & age doesnt happen very often. I really hope he signs a new deal and for the future I would love to se him in a management role at Ewood. As for scoring from outside the box TC...it reminds me of my goals down at Witton eh!!!!!

What a great article, good to see Tugay loves Rovers as much as we love him. Would be great to see him develop as a coach/manager under Hughsey! DEAN, think about it mate, a club the size of Man U cant take a risk on a manager, they HAVE to take on someone with top level Champs League experience, they are a MAJOR company who cant take risks at that level. Not saying hughsey won't get there eventually, but he won't got to Man Utd from Rovers...unless he does well in the Champs Lge with us! remember where you heard it first lol!!

An extremely loyal and dedicated individual. Men like Tugay are not too plentiful today. Look at his record:-
12 years with Galatasaray, 2 years with Rangers and finally 7 (and counting) years with Rovers. The man is an example of dependability and steadfastness - an example so many other Players could learn from.
Tugay ranks with the true greats of Blackburn Rovers, people like Bob Crompton, Ronnie Clayton, Bill Eckersley, Brian Douglas, Kevan Moran, Noel Brotherson and a few others.
Tugay, we thank you - sincerely.

A GOLDEN AGE FOR US ROVERS SUPPORTERS...

The Legend Tugay must stay at BRFC for all those reason outlined above. This guys reputation further enhances this great clubs reputation. For his words fill me with glowing pride of his obvious love.

I sense he will stay with MH waving his magic wand.

Anybody know a Albert Riera from Espanyol - a possible reason why Hughes was in Spain for the Espanyol vs. Ath. Madrid game?

And where is Daniel - this transfer target is in his own home court! ;-)...probably still writing emails for Bradley i guess :-)

The pure thought of Tugay staying on with us for lets hope years to come on the coaching and managment scene has just lifted my doom and gloom following last Sundays display!
The guy is indeed a legend and I have said this many times before - Shearer apart Tugay is THE BEST player I have ever seen live on a football pitch in a Rovers short.
BUT apart from his undoubted skill it's his attitude that sets him aside for others.
Don't know woh else remembers but when at his best we used to chant "Tugay for England" on the riverside and there was even a banner - he loved it and always came over that clapped us!
What a professional!!

Changing the subject,Rovers are officially ranked 15th for average support,(not bad for a small town club).PNE 39th,Burnley 40th(terrible considering they think there a big club, with a massive catchment area)Blackpool 42nd and sadly Accrington Stanley are the worst supported Professional club in England.Check out sky sports news.

Tugay is a legend, but as for him being our next manager? does the guy even talk??????

Just because he is one of the league's best passers, and has a thunderbolt shot on him, I can't say i've seen/heard anything from him to suggest he could run a football club.

Good to hear that it looks liek we keep Tugay for at least one more year.
But I am afraid the managers job is booked the next time around.
When Sparkey eventually gets and offer he cannot refuse, Than a certain Big Yank, who has performed miracles for Rovers over the past years, and has the respect of everone at all levels in the club is a 1000% bolt on cert for the job.

Youer heard it here first

Martin, USA says...

I think this is the best option for everyone - Tugay gets to stay and play on for one more year and start to learn the coaching side of things, the fans get to see an exceptionally gifted footballer again and the younger players will benefit from his experience on the coaching side.

Great news for all Rovers fans! And maybe he might just be the next Rovers manager! I'd be happy with that (of course I want Hughes to stay tho!)

Man City make Europe on fair play league!

What a Joke. With the inconsistency of referees, and I have to agree with Avram Grant, the bias towards some clubs this is not a fair route into europe.

Thinking though if we want Europe next year we could lose every game and be relegated but not commit any fouls and europe is ours. Totally ludicrous. The UEFA cup place was awarded to England for the overall fair play so should be given to the next highest placed team as they deserve the place on merit not due to some dodgy decisions!!

You rock tugay! Please stay...like people have been saying if sparky ever does leave(which chances are he might...although not in the near future i hope :Slol) we will need someone who supports and loves the club 100% and that is clearly tugay! I hope he works his magic with the younger players and gets into the coaching but also keeps playing on the first team for a while longer...he can still produce goals and good chances, you just have to look at who got goal of the month and what a cracking goal that was! LOve ya Tugay!

I would love to see Tugay become a permanent part of the Rovers staff, particularly as a coach with the emphasis on tactics, accurate passing and intelligent running off the ball. I am very critical of the Brockhall staff in these areas and I believe Tugay has forgotten more than the present Brockhall coaches ever knew. Because of this Tugay should be made Head of Coaching at Brockhall and just maybe the present coaches would learn something. We certainly need Tugay to stay with Rovers.
