MARK Hughes is hopeful that Blackburn Rovers skipper Ryan Nelsen can draw a line under the hamstring injury that has troubled him this year.
The New Zealand international is closing in on a first-team return after two months on the sidelines following a season in which he has been plagued by the injury.
Nelsen played on since the injury first flared up in September and, by his own admission, the defender said it had adversly effected his performances on the pitch.
But after a lengthy period of rest, and a reserve team outing last week, the 30-year-old Kiwi is confident the injury problem is now a thing of the past as he bids to regain his place in the Rovers rearguard and help the club's push for a European spot.
And Hughes was hopeful his captain would be able to play a major role in Blackburn's run-in.
The Rovers boss said: "We hope he can draw a line under it.
advertisement
"Ryan will have to come to terms with it on occasions.
"He will have a little bit of discomfort.
"But he understands that now, when you have really significant injuries, there's always a price to pay.
"But it's not going to hamper him significantly.
"When he comes back, we all expect his form to be very good because he's fit and well now."
"He's such a genuine guy," said Hughes. "In his own mind, he wanted to make sure he was helping the side but in the end, the injury was compromising him too much."

dont know what it is but we still dont look secure at the back regardless which pairing are the central defenders.
hopefully the admirals return to fitness coincides with us becoming a more solid back four.
a few clean sheets between now and the end of the season would be appreciated (with us banging loads of goals in at the other end of course).
anyway as usual to all you rovers fans out there

I think our best central two are Khizanishvili and Ooijer...they seem to complement eachothers game better than any other partnership! Nelsen and Samba don't come close.

We've badly missed Ryan, when fit he's one of the best defenders in the prem, not far off John Terry class for me. It's no coincidence that Sambas form has dropped because he's missed Nelsen's guidance and organizational skills. He's only young, he needs someone to teach him so we shouldn't be too critical of Samba, he has the attributes to be a top defender. I think now Ryans back, we'll be a lot more solid defensively.
Wondering who Marks top targets are this summer? A few names are being banded about, Huddlestone, Cisse, Matter all sound good. I've been on the Everton page and they reckon Michael Bradley has agreed a pre-contract agreement with them, which would be a massive blow for us, i don't see Huddlestone and Vogel scoring many goals, so we need a goals scoring central midfielder and another 15 premier league goals striker to compliment Santa Cruz, needs to be someone with pace i think. That would rocket us up the league.
It looks like Mark is gonna have some cash to spend this summer and if need be he can always find another 7.5M from sales of Mokoena, Gallagher and probably Dunn.
The top 10 teams plus Newcastle = 11 all have open chequebooks and that is a major worry for our long term future, Mark can't keep finding cut price bargains. We badly need this takeover otherwise we're gonna be sitting around 11th for a long time to come.
Next season is a vital one for us, if we sign a few quality players this summer, we can push on and finish in the top 6 again, but if the takeover doesn't happen, i fear for our long term future.

Sell Dunn????
He's by far our best Centre mid in the team and even if we do buy CM in the summer he can play left midfield.
Also with a holding player Dunn and Reid will play with a lot more freedom we have a Lampard +Gerrard situation at the minute (albeit on a smaller scale)
A lone striker (Santa) is the way to go...

oh no Daniel sounds like your on a downer, could it be weve missed out on michael bradley? i dont know were your getting the top ten open chequebook from, if you are to believe the reports in the rags here, west ham wont be signing anybody unless they are on a 'free', and the mags owner is looking to sell the club because he has no money for team rebuilding.
maybe they both are pulling the wool over our eyes so as not to be gazzumped in the summer transfer round.
as for us so long as hughsie is at the reigns then we will be ok. if and when he goes thats when we need to worry.
above all daniel

full of the joys of the world Daniel, no-body can predict the future, but if you think the so called top '10' teams plus Newcastle's open cheque book policy is a basis for the Rovers falling behind then sadly your wrong...Spurs, Newcastle and i'm strggling to find another one out of the top 4 have hardly set the world alight and if anything have been pap, the basis of a sucessful team comes from the management, the rest takes care of itself - as for getting 7.5 million for the players u suggested, i don't think somehow!

Daniel, you're an idiot. Sell Dunn? Are you mad? Why?
This season, on the recovery from injury he has improved nearly every game he's played...look at the cross for bentley's header against and the penalties he won at Bolton, the free kick he won against Wigan that Bentley nearly banged in, the shot that smashed the bar against liverpool, his goal against arsenal (and before anyone jumps in going on about how it was a keeper error, so was their goal).
Dunn is class, if Hughes sells him (and Hughes is not a total moron so he won't) it would be a huge mistake.

Mokoena yeah, but probably one of the others will leave too.
David Dunn or Reid will NOT score the goals to fire us into the top 6 and beyond next season, we need to find someone who will.

Daniel I think the sun is bakin your head!!
You need to come down onto the cold & hardy St's of East Lancs for a reality check.....Sell Dunn?
You must be a dingle in disguise.....
What is it that you thinks warrents Dunn's sale?
From my perch on the Riverside I have seen Dunn gradually improve game on game which bodes well for the future.
If Dunny left I would be gutted unless of course he was replaced by some-one better than himself & even then I would be gutted....
Dunn is a quality player & would be very difficult tp replace unless we've got 5-6 mil spare?(no I'm not saying Dunn is worth that but thats what it would cost in all likelihood)
Daniel, Dunny stays!!

Ryan is a top class defender. He might not have done well this season and that was only because of his injury. He played for the reserves and did quite well and now that he's back for the first team he'll prove he has quality. Nelly can come back and start fresh. He can forget the past and concentrate on the future.
COME ON ROVERS!!

If reid stays injury free til next season then i think he could be the player he was the last season we got 6th place, will set up more, score more and boss the midfield perfectly, good to see him come through this season after his injury hes certainly progressing well.
Dunn again has shown improvement, this is all good as with a couple of new signings, will have some competition which is needed seein as a certain few arent playing to their best abilitys this season.

I think Tugay(legand & should be offered some role at BRFC) & Mokoena will will be sacrificed at the end of the season..
Looks to me that MH is setting up his stall for next season with the addition of the likes of Vogal.
Dunny can get himself into double figures next season if the team is set up that way?
I think you probarly didn't see Dunny 1st time around before his exit to Brum?
I would rather him be at BRFC than any other club because I think Dunny will explode these next couple of seasons?
Dunny has is detractors but lets see?
I'm here to be corrected!!

Dunn will never score 10+ goals, he hasnt got the finishing when it comes to going for goal! i'd be far more happier if he plays as he is, passin and holdin the ball well, chasin after lost causes and gettin us some much needed free kicks and pens (cos he does tend to fall easily).
we got goal machines up front to put em away, who cares if we dont have scorin midfielders.

Is it poss Everton have a pre-contract agreement with him?
Woody, i do remember Dunny from 2000, he was a great young exciting talent then, he looked like the complete player. Always remember when we played at Highbury and he recieved the ball tight on the left touchline and outskilled and beat 2 Arsenal players. He doesn't seem the same player to me now, but then i'm not at Ewood every week so i can't say for sure.
Remember in 95' there was talk of Roversvision the tv channel? i'd love to see that.
I hope you're right and Dunn does explode in these next couple of seasons.

Back to music – what do you think would be a great tune for Rovers to come out to?
We’ve had Simply the Best (when we were) and Wild Rover for a bit now.
Although it’s not a tub-thumper I like the sentiment of Ryan Adams “When the Stars Go Blue” which is a classy Neil Young / Dylan style number. The chorus goes –
Where do you go when your lonely
Where do you go when your Blue
Where do you go when your lonely
I’ll follow you
Where the Stars Go Blue
Where the Stars Go Blue
What do you think and what would you like?

Nelson is a big influence on that team & of course he has in
weaknesses but in the main he is our rock........
Nelson for the freedom of Blackburn!!!
Good to see him back..
Think you and Ossy are taking over today! Spot on though - a fit Nelson is a class above and as Center Halves tend to go on until mid 30's if we can get him fit we should be sound at back. Anyway - Ossy, Woody,
Back to music – what do you think would be a great tune for Rovers to come out to?
We’ve had Simply the Best (when we were) and Wild Rover for a bit now.
Although it’s not a tub-thumper I like the sentiment of Ryan Adams “When the Stars Go Blue” which is a classy Neil Young / Dylan style number. The chorus goes –
Where do you go when your lonely
Where do you go when your Blue
Where do you go when your lonely
I’ll follow you
Where the Stars Go Blue
Where the Stars Go Blue
Let's hope that the Nelsen that returns is the one of a couple of years ago, who was a revelation in defence, and not the pale shadow who was made to look incredibly average earlier this season. Hopefully it was just the injury affecting him.
As for the midfield discussion - Dunn has performed better than I expected this season, particularly in the fact that he hasn't missed many games through injury. I think Hughes' policy is to perhaps have one-or-two of the current 1st team become squad players next year, and I think Dunn might fall into that category more than Reid. I agree that Tugay and probably Mokoena will be moved on at the end of the year. I agree that it would be great if Tugay could be given some kind of role within the club, if he decides to hang up his boots, that is. I'm interested to see how Vogel plays - could be another masterstroke by Sparky!

Apart from the top 4 and tottenham i dont think the prem will be spending ludicrous amounts of money in the summer.
portsmouth could only buy defoe due to the benjani deal,
everton are investing in their new ground
West Ham- The bubbles burst after spending way too much on the crocks of the prem
Villa- maybe one or two new faces
Newcastle- They could spend 500 million and get nowhere!
Hughes will not make wholesale changes in the summer. We have Vogel and i think he will only sign another 2 (unless bentley goes)at a push three to bolster another assault for a top six place. Quality not quanity has been his ethos since day one.
We wont have five players leaving and five players in...he doesnt work that way.
Although i fear the first casualty will be the legend that is Tugay, its a shame but all good things come to an end. I wounder if the club would give him a coaching role?

Daniel the thing is if that type of player was out there even if he was a young raw talent the big clubs would be chasing him.
Lampard wasnt breaking records at west ham as a free scoring midfielder its only since he's got to chelsea (who have the holding player) that he's kicked on.
but dont forget we are one of the few teams that play with two out and out wide men to start allowing ourselves the free scoring midfielder would mean a change in style, which could reduce our other attacking options.
no doubt hughsie has players in mind but again we have talent in the squad already, but getting them all to perform at thier best week in week out is the problem.
also dont forget we do have a relatively small squad.
KEEP THE FAITH

[bold]trev[/bold] good shout on tugay. could he be a rovers manager ond day?
[bold]woody[/bold]/[bold]morst[/bold] without doubt the admiral our best the defender when fit and and in form.
[bold]Daniel[/bold] dunny and reidy are beginning to show signs of getting back to being good prem players after long term fitness problems.
as for songs or music the
words seem apt but what tune is it? we need a good old tub thumper
queens 'we will rock you' was good for that or thin lizzies 'the boys are back in town'.
probably for the modern footballer pink floyds 'money' is more suitable.
im going to have to think about it for a while.
anyway guys

Y'know strange you should bring that up(musical intro) me & my pal were talking of that on Saturday !!
Albeit after Cruz scored & what would be fitting for that but then realised that it aint allowed during the match?
Two songs spring to mind for the entrance:
1. I AM THE RESSURECTED(STONE ROSES)
2. BLUE MONDAY(NEW ORDER)
I'm a firm believer that a good song would get the crowd 'juiced-up' kinda speak!!
Another song to mull over would non other than 'Neil Young' & 'ROCKING IN THE FREE WORLD'?
It his time for a new theme..
Failing all that then c'mon Morst,Ossy......
'E BY GUM'................
...........Have to burn it to cd though!!

I'm pretty much excited at what next season will bring simply because I think MH is gonna make changes to the team & if we keep all our best players(DUNNY) etc & new additions then I think we can look forward to a productive season & remember Hughes will not be happy at all our early exits from various comps & MH will want to rectify that....

Ok, i presume we're all pretty much agreed we need another first choice striker, McCarthy has been soooo disapointing this season, Santa Cruz gives his all and scores plenty of goals, he doesn't look like he'll go the way of McCarthy and get lazy next season. Daniel - i'd love to see us go after Kevin Doyle from reading. I think he is a realistic target and someone who has bags of potential. Could perhaps be a good partner for Rocky as well. How much do you think his market value would be? I was thinking around the £4-5m mark which may prove a problem unless we can raise some extra finance from selling the likes of McCarthy and Gallagher.

Can't see him scoring a significant amount of more goals, but yeah he has potential and we could get him, probably looking around the 3.5/4M mark.
What do you think about Doyle Woody? Ossy?
I think we gotta sign players that will improve our first team a fair amount, but Mark Hughes is right, they're not cheap. I mean we were linked to Santa Cruz's Paraguay strike partner, anyone know more about him?
I would pounce at the chance to resign Bellers, but i don't think it's too likely. But no doubt Mark will have a few guys in mind that we're not aware of, and i think we all trust his judgement, so i'm sure whoever he brings in up front, he will be a good addition and improve the team.
We'll most likely have to look abroad for signings cause the prices in the premiership are insane

Daniel theres loads of players out there who could do a job for us, i still think that we already have a couple of class acts up front in Santa and benni, an alternative with JR and potential in derbs.
its been well documented by all of us about benni's lack of form (some say committment or attitude) but i keep saying it the guy is class, and what we dont want is for him to go to another PL club and start banging in goals for them. im convinced benni will eventually come good it may be next season but he will get there.
JR is doing a job for us now but transfer rumours and him supposedly not being happy have been rumbling on since last summer so if anybody were to go i think it would be him.
Doyle would be an adequate replacement for him but not benni.
put it this way when hughsie brought in santa we all went 'who', it was only the fact he came from munich which made it more appealing, and ive no doubt hughsie has others on his list, they may be higher profile who knows but ide rather he be in charge than some of the money wasters seen at other clubs.

put it this way when hughsie brought in santa we all went 'who', it was only the fact he came from munich which made it more appealing, and ive no doubt hughsie has others on his list, they may be higher profile who knows but ide rather he be in charge than some of the money wasters seen at other clubs.
KEEP THE FAITH
Really? I can't see how you can compare the two Daniel. Doyle is a natural goalscorer and given the right service will score plenty for a good Premiership side. Roberts will never be in that class in my opinion although his style means he is a superb alternative for any manager to have. The human battering ram if you will...

I wouldnt touch bellamy again. We have been there done that. He was good for rovers and, when fit, gave us pace and stretched teams but the guy has always been injury prone.
The season rovers had him he had injury problems, this continued at both Liverpool and West Ham. A fit Bellamy would be a great signing for many a prem team but he seldom is.
One guy i was impressed with was the guy on the left wing for the under 21's last night! Did anybody see him? He would give Gamst a kick up the arse.

[bold][bold]Woody[[/bold] /bold] - Stone Roses Album - now your talking. Neil Young - Rockin in the Free World - superb and on my best of mix which is in car at present. What about Hey Hey My My Into the BLUE - it's better to burn out than to fade away! [bold]Ossy[/bold] If we are Dark side of the Mooning then how about "The Great Gig in the Sky" - it's one of my Bad Day songs to chill out to. As for Claruts it would have to be Brain Damage - Got to keep the Looneys on the path!!
[bold]Meanwhile the Blimp has reached Spain[/bold] - should we alert the Barca and Maaidrid fans?

Maybe thats why we're fans and not managers.
For the right price Bellamy would be a great aquasition. He's got the lot!!!

We'll most likely have to look abroad for signings cause the prices in the premiership are insane[/quote] Yeh I can see your eye for Doyle here Jay,Daniel.
He kinda slips under the radar a little possibly cause he's at a low profile club(not my words) but I rate him.
I doubt MH would splash that much though if thats what he was to cost?
I yearn for another Mike Newell.......
One thing for me is to definately keep hold of Bennie.
I'm sure he will come out of his slump & I have a little niggly feeling that being included in the SA squad could just give him a boost?
For me I'm happy with our strike force(even though it could argued we could do better?).
In fact you all must remember the Reading game of this season?
Man I was creaming myself over that display & I hoped that the standard had been set. The point being that we know the capabilities of our strikers.

Ryan hasn't been 100%fit this season, and he admitted that he didn't play up to his best while he was injured, but he's THE ADMIRAL! let us not forget that...

Both Nelsen and Samba have become liabilities in defence. However all four central defenders have posses, so let's hope for the latter two that it's only there form that's gone missing temporarily.

Zurab is really underated, and I love that he never complains about being on bench and always working hard when he plays! Samba has been a bit on and off this season, but I think we all have to remember he's only 23 years old,he's bound to make mistakes, but he's a great talent and will grow into a Monumental defender!
Keep the faith! I'm grooving to

its 8:00am heard the news about Santa to say im devastated is an understatement. the axe was quoted the other day about knowing how to stop santa, the knob.
it looks like it was quite early in the game so it was either a bad injury or he was taken of as a precaution. benni scored he's SA all time top scorer if santa is injured for saturday lets hope that benni makes up for it.
with the news from last night
its hard today to KEEP THE FAITH, but injuries happen in football.
if santa's injury is serious then an apt song is
