Dunn: Blackburn Rovers players let Paul Ince down

DAVID Dunn has told former boss Paul Ince ‘we let you down’ as he looks to lead by example in helping Rovers out of the relegation mire.

The Blackburn Rovers vice-skipper is optimistic about the rest of the campaign under new manager Sam Allardyce but insists Ince deserved better during his short reign.

The Guv’nor was sacked just over a week ago after an 11-match winless run saw Rovers second from bottom in the Premier League and six points adrift of safety.

A dismal 3-0 drubbing at Wigan proved the final nail in the coffin for Ince with Dunn admitting the players had to shoulder some of the blame.

He said: “It was a very poor performance against Wigan there is no question about that, especially as we had a lot of fans there being just the down the road.

“We let them down it is as simple as that. A lot has been said about the ex-manager but on that day we let him down. After 10 minutes we were 2-0 down and there is not much any manager could do.

“John Williams has appointed a very good manager in Sam Allardyce but I have to say I do feel we have let Paul Ince down a bit, I have to say that.

“On Saturday, the lads applied themselves in the right manner and showed a good attitude. Maybe we have let ourselves down in the last 10 weeks.”

Ahead of this afternoon’s trip to Sunderland though, Dunn is determined to focus on the future and insists the belief in their own ability is still as strong as ever.

He said: “We knew we were going to turn the tide sooner or later because of the ability in the dressing room, it was just a matter of when. I would have put my house on us at Wigan.

“The confidence was down but it has been difficult. I have kept my mouth shut because it is hard to say anything when you are not in there yourself.

“I prefer to be out there and leading by example. It is easy for people to sit in the stand but it is being out there, that is the hardest thing in the stadium.”

Absolutley right Ian, Paul was way out of his depth managing a club with such a big reputation and personally i think he just wasn't ready for the job!

Ince has prived he is a good manager in his previous appointments it was just too big a leap from MK Dons to the premiership, he needs a couple of seasons in the Championship to see if can do it at that level.

I wish him well in his career but he had to go or we would have gone down which could have lead to some serious financial implications. Lets just hope that Big Sams appointment is the start of the revolution, we need some big points over the xmas period.

Dunny neither you or any other members of the squad should feel any guilt over letting Ince down, from a fans view we have watched the squad fitness drastically deteriorate compared to when Hughes was in charge and at times seen demonstrations of tactical naivety.

I thought that Ince and his back room staff were to blame and not the players. This is the same side as under Mark Hughes, albeit minus Friedel & Bentley. No, I think the lack of ideas, tactics, fitness etc... was to blame, which were all under the control of Ince.

Those of you saying that the players have no blame in our current situation are in dreamland. Do you think they have no mind of their own, that every decision they make is put in their head by the manager?! There have been many individual errors in recent weeks, blame for which has to be put squarely at the players feet. And what about all the missed chances up front? I suppose they were Ince's fault too!

Don't get me wrong, you can lay the blame for lack of fitness and perhaps some poor tactical decisions at Ince's door, and after the Wigan debacle he had to go, but the players are certainly not blame-free in all this.

I couldn't care less what Ince does now. He did his best to put this club under. He did not have the decency to walk away when he knew he was out of his depth, threatening rovers prem status. He can ruin whatever other club he wants as long as he never comes near ewood again. Good riddance to the worst manager in rovers history.

GAyzer is quiet - wonder if he managed to bump into Sweet Melinda after all then!

Anyway Dingles annual Jan Sales starts soon followed by the slide down the table - That Eagles would be a good addition to our squad?

A win or draw would be good result today and then bring on Citeh!

30 YEARS AND COUNTING!
