David Dunn return is ‘priceless’ for Blackburn Rovers

PAUL Ince believes David Dunn’s imminent return could add something ‘money can’t buy’ as he looks to guide Rovers away from the relegation mire.

The injury-plagued midfielder is on target for a December comeback, after undergoing an Achilles operation earlier this campaign, with boss Ince insistent Dunn can make a major contribution to a Rovers’ revival.

While the club remain determined not to rush him back, Dunn’s rehabilitation has stepped up a gear, filling his manager with optimism he will be back in action by the turn of the year.

He is back running in training and, with a busy December ahead, Ince knows the return of his vice skipper could prove priceless for the remainder of the campaign.

Ince said: “We are getting there slowly that is for sure. Dunny is getting better by the minute, which is good news.

“I think the end of December is still a realistic target.

"We don’t want to push him, but the lad is very optimistic.

"He is running now and, although we have not put an actual date on it, we are looking somewhere around that mark.

“He scored against Everton in the first game of the season and is a very talented player.

"He is a completely different player to anything we have got at the club.

“He can make things happen and he has been sorely missed.

"By him getting back fit, hopefully by January, it will be great for us. Players like Dunny cost a lot of money.

“You can’t always buy that creativity but Dunny is a local lad, loves the club, and can’t wait to get back and help us up the league. What a boost his return could bring.”

Dunn’s absence ever since Rovers’ second game of the campaign has seen the Ewood Park outfit drop down the Premier League table and into the relegation zone.

Ince is already stepping up his efforts to bolster his troubled squad ahead of the opening of the January transfer window but he insists Dunn’s return would bring more than an on-field contribution.

He said: “We need all the lads, the fans, everyone, we need to stick together.

"Dunny helps with that because he is a local lad being in the mix of it.

"It will be great to get him back in the dressing room as well as on the pitch."

whatever the ins and outs of opinions on the current situation, it seems clear to me that Ince wanted Grella and Dunny as his midfield two this season. I know that "thats the way football is", but to be deprived of the 'engine room' hasn't helped his/our plight.

I agree our main problems have come from the fact that we have not had a settled midfield. And When Dunny is playing with his pride for the shirt it just spurs on the players that little bit more. I think that sooner he gets back the better. And if Ince got sacked before Dunny came back it be a the wrong descission as I feel with Dunny, and Grella both should be back in december the team will ahve the central two that drive the team onwards and upwards. The future is bright the future is blue and white

i dont think fat pie boy will do that much he's a bit injury prone latley and by the time he gets back in the team in december they will be miles adrift

I think its a settled team throughout that is required. I understand injuries etc but Ince admitted recently that he didn't know his best 11. The Aston Villa side that won the league in '81 (?) only used 14 players. I understand that a squad of that size isn't possible in this climate. However it does illustrate the point that a settled side can be a successful one. No manager can cope 100% effectively with injuries, but you can be successful at plugging gaps and changing systems. This is where it has fallen down. This isn't meant as an 'INCE OUT' rant, rather an objective view. I will continue one mantra though...

WINTERBURN OUT!! OOH COLIN HENDRY IN!.. PERHAPS WITH SUPPORT FROM SHORTY!

A fit and on form Dunn would have got us at least a point yesterday if not all three. Ince is spot on in his assessment of the lad's potential contribution to our team and a combination of Dunn,Tugay/Andrews and Grella would provide a more creative and resolute midfield to help out our over-stretched defence as well as provide ammo for our front line.
Keep Dunny from the Christmas pudding and get him playing soonest.

We can't relay on Dunn he's always injured, and never plays more then 15 games a season.

the priority should be replacing the likes of dunn and reid. Banking on dunn being fit all season is asking for trouble

I think if Ince has a full squad to chose from he knows who will be his main eleven. I dont think Dunn is as injury prone as people think, and the reason Dunn is improtant is he is blackburn through and through something people complain about. And thats what makes a difference as when you need the team to get that kick up the backside he can specially now he has been given vice captain, and showed against everton that it has given him a new lease of life.

I didn't watch INCE last night talking himself up as future England manager.
Hey as the late great J.Strummer always said 'THE FUTURE IS UNWRITTEN'but if INCE is the future of England then forget it.
Never really had an opinion about Ince until he began managing BRFC & nothing will change my mind regards his failings thus far.

My view on this is that INCE is just not good enough. Regardless of injury's HIS team are nowhere near organised to last a full 90+ mins.
Take a real good look at the situation from the beginning of the season. Look at how the team disintigrates. This team is nowhere near fit enough to last the 90+ mins. Conceding late in the game.

UTD & CHELSEA won the games at a canter while ROVERS huffed & puffed!! It's a disgrace.

I heard just the other day that THE TEAM Train for 2 HOURS A DAY!! With retro training techniques I.E. PRESS UPS & RUNNING ROUND THE PITCH!!
My god that cannot be right?

I watched City Thursday last out of interest because I am a big fan of Hughes.HIS team nailed the win with what looked like good organisation & fitness(also good skill etc) I DO NOT SEE THAT IN INCE'S TEAM!! Yes some pretty football(for 15 mins)THEN WE RUN OUT OF IDEA'S ONCE THE OTHER TEAM GET'S TO GRIPS & THE REST IS HISTORY AS THEY SAY!!

The guy from Ireland suggesting that Rovers fans write to J.Williams that is a quality idea & I will be on that. Thanks for that.

Hi Woody - have you checked that Macca (under the Fireman alias) track "Nothing to much just outta sight" yet? Bet you buy the album when you do. Back to Footy - enough of this negative Ince out - what about fans in?
How can Bradford get 13,000 home fans in league two? (and that's before the £99 quid calender ticket) - Has our Chairman even picked up the phone to ask the Bradford Chairman yet?
The Chairman quoted – “WE HAD THOUSANDS OF EMPTY SEATS IN A SMART NEW STADIUM AND WHAT IS THE POINT OF THAT?” With a credit crunch on we wanted to do something for the people of Bradford and also make the club the focus of the town.

Don't know if the LET are taking the proverbial Woody but the password on this comment is Rock-some!!!

It took Alex Ferguson 4 years to win anything... He was one match away from getting the sack... They won that match & the rest is history...
Maybe this Saturday... Watched the Portsmouth game on tv & no way did the Rovers deserve to lose... Only my opinion...
