Roque Santa Cruz agent slams Manchester City link stories

ROQUE Santa Cruz is expecting to remain Blackburn Rovers’ property for the foreseeable future after his agent slammed Manchester City links as “rubbish”.

Rovers’ talisman is reported to have issued a ‘come and get me’ plea to former boss Mark Hughes on Paraguayan radio station Primero de Marzo, but his representatives insist Santa Cruz is content at Ewood.

A spokesperson for JB Sports2Business, his German-based agency, told the Lancashire Telegraph the striker has no plans to quit Lancashire in January, citing all recent speculation as wide of the mark.

Santa Cruz has been consistently linked with a move to Eastlands, after City had a bid turned down for him in the summer, with his latest alleged interview adding further fuel to the fire.

The former Bayern Munich man has been quoted as saying he would like to team up with Robinho at a team “that is fighting for important objectives”, but Santa Cruz’s camp has quickly distanced the striker from these comments.

His agency said: “I don’t think there is anything at all in these comments. Roque would not be so stupid as to say things like this, even if it was to a small radio station in Paraguay.

“Every time we speak to him he is very happy at Blackburn, that is why he signed a new contract this summer. Roque is not trying to line up a move away.

“There have been a number of stories in the newspapers saying he has said this but every time we speak to him, he says there is no truth in him looking for a move.

“That is all we can say on the subject really. He is very happy at Blackburn and has no reason to be looking for a move away. We believe a lot of things written are rubbish.”

A string of clubs were chasing Santa Cruz’s signature this summer, with Rovers fearful he would follow the exits of Brad Friedel and David Bentley.

The South American though pledged his future to Paul Ince’s men, signing a new four-year deal in August, with Rovers hopeful it would silence the speculation.

Rumours have continued to be rife since though, with a reunion with Hughes at Manchester City the favoured link, despite Rovers’ continued insistence the striker is not for sale.

Santa Cruz missed his country’s World Cup qualifying 1-0 win against Columbia on Saturday, and is out of tonight’s clash with Peru, with a hamstring injury and is fighting a race against time to be fit for Saturday’s local derby at Bolton.

If he didnt say it I presume he will be starting legal proceedings then?

Lets get real, £35 million price tag, then we will see how much the new owners are prepared to back Hughes at City

Is getting be a major pain that every day we look its another story about blackburn, either unrest or somebody wants to leave. I know the southern press never been fans of us but its now becoming a witch hunt against us. Maybe because teams like Spurs are falling while so called unfashionable clubs like blackburn are punching above their weight. Not sure but hopefully this will all work in a favour and make the team bond even more and wanting to go out their and prove everybody wrong. The Future is Bright The Future is Blue and White

On another website the correct interview was quoted:

"Roque was quoted out of context. I heard the interview, and it was somthing like this.

Interviewer: So, Roque, we understand that M.City is after you Roque

(R): Manchester City is a team that has a very important financial support that is getting prepared for winning the title, and I understand they have many players on their "wanted" list, and is not just my name that is mentioned, they have many options.

(I): And how do you like the idea of going there?

(R): I A M H A P P Y here at Blackburn, but if there is again an offert for me, it should be one that the club can't resist, otherwise I am staying.

(I): Would you like to have Robinho as a partner?

(R): Well, Robinho is a great player and anybody would feel honoured to play next to him.

And that was it!...Roque is not planning on leaving any time soon."

If Citeh want him, they will probably get him...we aren't in a strong enough position to hold on to top players any more unfortunately. Pessimistic but true. I just hope we get the going rate if he does decide to join that laughing stock down the road.

Rumours like this are easy enough to generate and clubs like City who are desperate to get into the big time but lack the cachet of the big clubs have to do something to attract top players.

Who would go there by choice? - Robinho thought he was going to United which is why he looked as sick as a very sick pig when he was interviewed with Hughes. He will be on his way soon.

If i had the money City have i sure as hell wouldnt be going after Roque Santa Cruz! Until Roque personally comes out and states these comments are not true then I will presume he is agitating for a move. A few weeks back he was chinning on about Champions League Football. He is a very good player - but is he world class? No.

Yeah he's clearly agitating for a move by just signing a new contract!

Some people seem to have sh1t between their ears.

Yeah by signing a new contract with a get out clause...like a certain David Bentley who 'committed' his future to us. Wake up and smell the coffee you idiot - I like everyone hope Santa Cruz stays at Ewood, but there have been certain comments he has made in the last few weeks that seem to suggest his angling for a move. That is all. No go and pick your dummy up you big girl!

re roques quotes, who is he supposedly made them to?
if it was to the media none of them have actually claimed the 'Scoop'.
fact is roque is a good player and we at rovers are lucky to have him, he doesnt need to engineer a move if he's playing well he will always be linked with the top teams whether we like it or not.
lets be right about this he may be the top earner at ewood but its peanuts compared to what some players (with less ability) get at other clubs, and lets be right about it if anybody could seriously increase thier income by changing jobs we would all have to consider it.
Roque comes across as a desent type of guy but if oppertunities open up for him he would be foolish to at least not to consider them.

Roque aint going anywhere, If rovers rejected a £12mil bid in the summer then they're commited to keeping him.

He's class in a rovers shirt, but will he be class in a city shirt with robinho and potentially other starrs around him - my guess is NO, he will be a small fish there.

its just like the bentley, bellamy SAGA's all-over again. At rovers they are super because they get the chance to express themselves. at other clubs they dont hence why its all gone wrong for them.

only player who has left and played to the same potential is Big Al when he went Newcastle, never won owt, but still scored countless goals.

City wont waste £18+ mil when they can get better players, Roque is good. but he aint that good unfortunatley

Manchester is indeed within the historic County boundaries and part of the Palatine County of Lancashire.

It is not part of the modern administrative County.

Also , Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool, Everton, Wigan, Bolton, along with Blackburn, are members of the Lancashire Football Association.

Good points Ossy. It's the situation we have to get used to now but at least he is on a long contract again and therefore we protect ourselves with a least a big fat fee as the worst scenario. Meanwhile we get the best we can out of the player such as Shearer and Bentley.
It's up to us to use the money wisely (lower ticket prices - fuller Ewood anyone!) and find more bargain players who will be keen to come to us as they get a chance to impress and move to the big boys.
We have to accept our place as a club who cannot compete for the cream of Europe but because of our strong financial position (no major debts) we can get the very good players at the next level and compete to stay away from trouble and that leaves us a million miles ahead of the Dingles etc. I would love to make it a Bullseye since the Clarut's beat us - Could die happy then!

You've seen that new Santa Cruz contract have you then? No thought not. Let me guess, you just have an inkling that Rovers would change Roque's contract from one without a get out clause to one with, and give him a big pay rise in the bargain. Makes sense. Well either that or you are just making up clown like comments as you go along. I strongly suspect the latter.

As for Bentley, he didn't commit his future to us in any way. In fact he wouldn't sign a new contract when one was offered to him.

I'm liking your style but fortunately I've been lucky in life - I'm definitely a glass half full kind of chap.

I do tend to have a pop at negative fans though, especially one's who just make things up to be negative (as in ripleywonder's case and his made up clause in Roque's contract). If you are having to make up things just to back up your negative viewpoint then you have to ask - what's the point? Don't you agree.

On the whole I have positive things to say about the team, the manager and the board - I definitely think people should at least be given a chance before I make a decision on them.

Apologies if you think I'm being offensive.

I just personally don't see the need for such levels of negativity amongst our own fans. I think other fans do enough of that already - like clitheroe blue here for instance.
