Paul Ince has batted away fresh speculation concerning the future of David Bentley, who has once again been linked with moves to Tottenham, Aston Villa and Liverpool.

“There has been interest in David and why shouldn’t there be, because he’s a fantastic player,” said Ince.

“But I made my position clear to David when I spoke to him last week.

“He came back for training on Monday and was smiling, and his attitude has been excellent ever since.

“Obviously, it looks as though we are going to have to deal with lots of speculation, because you can’t pick up a paper at the moment without seeing David linked with one club or another.

“But I can deal with that, the chairman can deal with that, and, by the looks of things, David Bentley can deal with that too.

“To be honest, I’m already fed up talking about it because David is only one player in our squad.”

if bents wants to go thats fine but lets not allow him to go on the cheap, and if it means he stays with the rovers till somebody matches the right valuation then thats the way its got to be.
to keep his place in the england squad bentley has to be performing every week, so if he is forced to stay with the rovers its in his interest to keep up the level of performance he was giving last year.

like ince said it is getting boring talking about it.

keep the faith

Rovers have said he can go for 17 million, for me whoever gets him is getting him for a steal..

i would have set a price of 20 million with sell ons of 20%

i would also make bents put in a written request to leave..

Bents has a 3 year contract so we do not need to sell unless a "Great" offer comes in. If Barry is £18m then Bents at age 23 must be several million more. That means big 4 and Sparky in terms of budgets. The extra £3m from trust fund is like 10-15 thousand fans in gates receipts which means we can compete with the Villa's, Spurs, Bin Lala Geordies and Everton's of the world and should only sell for a really great deal.

Bentley is worth £18m+£2m performance related. So any club getting him for £17m is getting a £1m discount. Keep an eye on what happens to Aston Villas valuations of their player. If they hold out and get their asking price, there is no way Bentley should be allowed to leave for less than the £17m cash valuation. In reality I suspect he will be allowed to leave for £15m+ as transfer dead line day looms, especially if Ince needs the cash to bring a couple of new players in. If we can hold on to him till the January window, one of the top clubs might be prepared to pay £20m to boost their title challenge.
Wonder what Bently will do if the only club willing to meet the asking price in this window is not a London club? I think it would be in his interest then to stay till January or next summer.
I suppose what the club has to bear in mind is that he is only worth so many millions as long as he is fit and if he is injured before January we would not be able to count on those millions to bring in any fresh signings.
