ILYAS Khan is scheduled to confirm his resignation as Accrington Stanley chairman at a board meeting after Saturday’s home game against Macclesfield – but managing director Dave O’Neill is unsure how the meeting will pan out.

Khan said last month that he would step down as chairman at the next board meeting but O’Neill, currently in charge of day-to-day affairs and the most likely man to become chairman, was cautious when asked to predict the likely outcome of the gathering.

Khan is understood to still have concerns about elements of the agreement for O’Neill to finally take over the club from Eric Whalley, which had been held up pending clarification of loans owed to Whalley. That clarification came closer with the finalisation of the club’s 2008/09 accounts last month.

“There is a lot going on in the background,” said O’Neill.

“Ilyas did say he was going to stand down. We had no contact with him over the summer but we have now got contact.

“I don't know what will happen at the meeting.

“The takeover from Eric is coupled with the accounts, but Ilyas is not happy with one or two issues.”
