Sam Szmodics has admitted he love the chance to join a Premier League club this summer but remains very happy at Blackburn Rovers.

The Championship's top-scorer is set to be the subject of interest from multiple clubs this summer after netting 33 goals in all competitions. Rovers are braced for offers but will not sell him cheaply.

Szmodics signed a new deal in November, tying him to Ewood Park until 2026, with the option of a further year. That puts Rovers in complete control of his future.

The 28-year-old is unlikely to agitate for a move either, unless a top-flight offer comes his way. He reiterated he remains happy at Ewood Park.

EXCLUSIVE: Rovers offer contract to in-demand defender

Szmodics was typically honest when asked about his future and admitted if a Premier League club offered him a move, he would like to explore it. At his age, he feels now would be the best time to test himself at the highest level.

"For me to stay, I have two and a half years on my contract and so it is out of my hands," Szmodics told the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast.

"I signed a new deal in December because I love playing for the football club. It's a great football club but there will be speculation when you have scored 33 goals.

"It's a case of me enjoying my summer and seeing what's out there. I don't think anyone would begrudge me if a Premier League team came knocking.

"It is everyone's dream to play in the Premier League. I don't know if that opportunity will arise but I don't think anyone could be blamed if they have the chance to play in the Premier League.

"Look at Adam Wharton, he's 20 and flying at Crystal Palace, he's Blackburn through and through. I am 28 now and I want to test myself.

"If a Premier League team came knocking, it would be silly for me not to see what happens. If I stay at Blackburn, it's a great club to be at and I hope I score as many goals next year.

"I'd love to stay at Blackburn, I want to be the main man, I have taken it and loved it.

"Like I said, if there is a Premier League team that will give you a shot, that is a dream for everyone growing up to play at the highest level.

"I've played in the National League to the Championship. You would be stupid, and I know Blackburn fans want me to stay, but there is a chance to play in the Premier League.

"I can't imagine anyone would begrudge me that. I've kept Blackburn up, I've done a great job for them and it's an amazing club to play for.

"If I'm still there next season, happy days. If I'm not, it means I've gone on to be better financially and play at a higher level.

"That's what we play football for and I want to play at the highest level. There is no better opportunity than now to try and do that."
