John Eustace has avoided a touchline ban and has been fined £2,500 after his red card against Coventry City.

The Blackburn Rovers head coach was charged with misconduct after being dismissed for an altercation with Kasey Palmer. Eustace had to watch the remainder of the goalless draw from the stands.

Eustace admitted to The FA's charge on Friday but requested a personal hearing, delaying any potential touchline ban for the final game of the season at Leicester City. He therefore able to be in the dugout as Rovers secured their place in the Championship.

That hearing has taken place with the Rovers boss fined rather than banned. That means he is still able to be on the touchline for the first game of the 2024/25 season.

A club statement read: "John Eustace has been fined £2,500 after admitting an FA misconduct charge relating to an incident during Rovers’ Championship fixture against Coventry City on Saturday April 27th.

"The Rovers head coach accepted that he acted in an improper manner around the 50th minute and an independent Regulatory Commission imposed the fine following a subsequent Personal Hearing. No sporting sanctions have been imposed."

Eustace told the media he didn't believe he acted aggressively and was visibly shocked when the red card came out. In truth, it was nothing more than handbags and a yellow card apiece would have sufficed.

"I was just trying to get the ball back, the lad was in my technical area," Eustace said.

"I was just trying to get the ball back as quickly as I could. I don't think I was aggressive in any manner at all.

That was the first dismissal of his Rovers career, with his last touchline red coming on the penultimate day of last season with Birmingham City, again against Coventry.
