Officials at the North West Cricket League have agreed to delay the start of the 2024 season.

At a meeting on Tuesday night, it was agreed the Premiership and Championship matches scheduled for April 20 will now be played on June 30 and the Conference matches on September 1.

It is all designed to give grounds extra time to recover and dry out from the wet weather in recent weeks.

League secretary, Ray Taylor, said: β€œIn the unlikely event that we will get a lengthy dry spell between now and 20, the grounds are so wet that there would be a lot of damage to the pitches, which take longer to recover at this time of the year.”
