Dom Hyam knows the importance of Rovers’ remaining fixtures but is confident they can pull away from the relegation zone.

John Eustace’s side are currently 17th in the table with a three-point cushion above the drop zone with eight games left to play.

“We all know in the dressing room how big these games are, each and every one of them,” said the skipper.

“We are up against tough opposition but we know we can string together some results. We are a confident bunch and have got the top goalscorer in the league, so we know we can be a goal threat.

“We are becoming more solid, slowly but surely, and we have got goals in us. They are big games and we will be refreshed and confident heading into them.”

Rovers have gone eight games without victory in the league, drawing their last three matches against Millwall, Plymouth and Middlesbrough.

Hyam insists there is still plenty of belief in the camp and hopes they can start turning those results into wins.

“There is (confidence). If we don’t believe, who will? We are the ones who need to grab games by the scruff of the neck and get points,” he added.

“Until it is safe and done, we will keep fighting and scrapping to do our best to stay in the division.”

Joe Rankin-Costello has missed the past month through injury, while Hayden Carter has been out of action since January, and the skipper says it would be a big boost to have them back for the run-in.

“It gives the gaffer some more options and we will have a strong bench when they are back,” he explained.

“They have played a lot of games for Blackburn and know more than anyone what it means to the club to stay in the division.

“We are looking forward to getting those boys back and there will be healthy competition.”

Conceding goals has been an issue for Rovers this season, but one positive from recent performances has been their resilience.

Hyam hopes the side can build on their clean sheet at Middlesbrough and make the most of their time on the training pitch during the international break.

“It has been tough because of the amount of games,” he continued. “We haven’t been able to train much - it is just play, recover, travel.

“It has been classroom-based meetings and (last week) was the first where we had decent time for (Eustace) to implement some of his ideas.

“I think we have become more solid from it. We were tight at the back (at Middlesbrough) and in the end, it just wasn’t to be.

“Sammie (Szmodics) had a couple of chances in the first half, Hedgey (Ryan Hedges) and Gally (Sam Gallagher) as well.

“They worked tirelessly. It is just about staying in games and knowing you have got some threats going forward.”
