A Lancashire football club have become involved in an online argument with one of their division rivals over ticket pricing.

Accrington Stanley host Wrexham in League Two today (November 18) with Stanley looking to secure their first win in any competition for almost a month.

The East Lancashire side raised ticket prices for the clash against their North Wales opponents, who are owned by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, by £5 for both sets of fans, something which did not go down well with Wrexham.

Ahead of the game, they released a statement on their official X account.

It said: “In response to Accrington Stanley’s decision to increase the matchday price by £5 from that previously charged at Wham Stadium for league games this season, we have decided to reduce the price of matchday tickets by £5 for the return game at the SToK Cae Ras on 02/03/2024.”

While the club did not respond themselves, Accrington chairman Andy Holt did take to X to vent his frustrations at Wrexham’s statement.

He said: “When costs are already high, Wrexham, the last thing football needs is stupid, mistimed statements.

“Let’s have a great day for all fans safely, whatever the outcome on the pitch.”

Holt finished his post by saying “Welcome to Accrington”, likely a reference to the documentary ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ which has been running since their high-profile takeover.

In response to fans criticising the price increase, Holt said big policing bills and stewarding costs meany this game needed the price increase.

He added he appreciated “what Wrexham are doing for our fans though.”

Wrexham have had an increased profile since their takeover by Reynolds and McElhenney, hence the bumper crowd expected to hit Lancashire today.

Accrington currently sit eighth in League Two, one point behind county rivals Morecambe in the play-off spots and seven behind third-placed Wrexham.

Kick-off at the Wham Stadium is at 3pm.
