Blackburn Rovers chairman: Paul Ince was worth wait

BLACKBURN Rovers chairman John Williams believes his lengthy search for a new manager has been vindicated by the appointment of Paul Ince.

Almost three weeks after Mark Hughes left for Manchester City, Williams finally appointed his replacement yesterday, when Ince met the Rovers chief at his Cheshire home.

Now Williams hopes that will be the start of a blossoming working relationship between the pair, as they look to build on Hughes' legacy.

"We took our time finding a new manager, and I'd like to think we've been as thorough as possible.

"We had some very impressive candidates on our list. But Paul Ince has come out on top and I think he will prove to be an outstanding manager.

"I'm very excited by the appointment and, judging by his reaction, I think Paul is very excited too. He's really up for it and very hungry."

Rovers got the green light to move for Ince on Friday evening, when the Premier League agreed to grant a special dispensation, which allows him to manage in the top flight without the necessary coaching badges.

However, one of the conditions stipulated he must do his UEFA Pro Licence over the next two years.

In the meantime, Ince will bring Ray Mathias, his trusted right-hand man at MK Dons, as part of his backroom team at Ewood. He also plans to bring in an experienced coach who has worked in the Premier League before.

Credit to John Williams for being the first Chairman of a Premier League club to appoint a British Black Manager. This appointment will win the club many fans not just locally but nationally also. Well done John!! I'm sure Incey will do all he can to repay the faith you have shown in him.

John Williams has never let us down before with his decisions and I am sure he knew what he was doing when he offered Ince the job.

Can't wait to see Rovers play exciting football again under Ince its going to be a good season

Good luck Ince and thank you John Williams

'He also plans to bring in an experienced coach who has worked in the Premier League before.'
Along with the Dons chairmans comments about Inces brand of football, his belief in sports science issues and preparation, I think this is most encouraging, he realises he needs a coach with premiership experience and this seems to have been addressed as well, so far so good!
Now lets get behind the fella and welcome him to Ewood, good Luck Paul.

Thanks to Mr Williams and the board!

I hope Paul will want to keep our star player - Santa Cruz. Bentley is raring to 'go' so I don't include him in my wish list.

Whatever you do Paul we are right behind you as a manager.

Welcome to Blackburn Rovers - the heart of football...ehehehehe

now we have our manager in place, the important thing would be to secure santa and samba for longer then flog bentley to spurs or chelsea as part of a deal for lennon or wright-phillips.

What can we expect from the New Manager and his team.
Well JW says he and the board did a thorough job and are excited by the appointment.
After reading this on Ray Mathias I have my doubts already.
(Mathias recently stated that almost all of his team talks see him impersonate a swan while the players and substitutes throw Murray Mints at him whilst team manager Paul Ince will shout: 'Sit down Sturrudge' at him in a mild Welsh accent.

Maybe this is what the UEFA Pro Licence is all about.
Wrong, Wrong, Wrong decision, but I will support it. Because of Boxing Day.

Guy's lets stop all this possible racist stuff its sensless and pointless Paul Ince is the first black british born Premier League manager (FACT). So what who cares he has been appointed purely on JW's and the boards belief that he is "The best man for the job".

I dodnt think for one minute that Kate was being racist Chris so get over yourself we live in a multicultural multi race society but Paul will be the first british born black manager in the PL and i think that is what Kate was meaning so get down off your soap box.

Lets all give Paul big BRFC welcome and get behind him not because of colour creed or any other reason than the only one that counts...........He is manager of my belover BRFC.......Rovers till i die PAUL INCE'S BLUE AND WHITE ARMY!!!!!

If this has formed part of the appointment, maybe JW wants someone who knows the club to, although not in recent times Faz would be a welcomed addition (talk about Rovers legends) He must have moved down the pecking order at city.

I think there's a worrying undercurrent to the Laudrup link; some fell for his agent's tricks at the expense & compromised their objectivity & trust in John Williams & the Rovers board. By believing Laudrup was a viable option, it created a concept that if Ince was selected it would be an anticlimax - majority of posts in here since Thursday proved that. I guess we need to ask ourselves how the Laudrup link broke - from Denmark, and his agent. Then ask ourselves why? Well, with the benefit oh hindsight, that now seems obvious - his agent knew he wouldn't be given the job (possibly due to suggested clauses, or a lack of commitment, or otherwise - we probably will never know) and so tried to get public opinion on his side. In reality, he threw his toys out the pram in a way akin to Allardyce. It's telling that last Friday, 3 candidates all chose to break news to the press - Mclown going to Twente, Laudrup's link & Allardyce stamping his feet. It now seems clear why. Whatever anyone else suggests, one thing seems obvious to me - JW has been vindicated in the way they went about their business. Okay, it remains to be seen if Ince will succeed - which is subjective after all - but Allardyce above all justified why he was clearly wrong in every aspect - arrogant, childish, stupid, obnoxious and petulant, so good riddance to bad rubbish.

nay, and thrice nay to Tony Parkes - have to move forwards, not backwards; one of Hughes's best moves as to keep Tony Parkes on would have compromised things at every level, he was a passenger thrust upon every management team and had his day too long ago.

Brian Kidd had all the coaching qualifications and was supposed to be one of the best in the league, as was Harford!!
They were never number 1s, there is something about top managers that sets them apart!!
Arrogance, Ince has that, so does Fergie, so did Morinho and Clough!! Its something different and all the badges in the world cant give you that, that is in your make up.

As for the earlier comment about Tony Parkes, I think I am going to upset a few peeps here, but I know, through ex staff at Rovers that Hughes did the right thingm in removing TP.
one of the words spoken of him was 'snake in the grass' I cant comment on that but Rovers did kick on when TP left.
I think we have moved on from TP.
