Blackburn Rovers have played down reports linking them with January moves for Chelsea's Steve Sidwell and the former Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse, who is currently at Marseille.

Sidwell would be good but to be honest we need 3 or 4 at the monent, no need for more strikers.

I actually think a striker would be useful at the moment. The way Roque is playing, he is a shoe-in, but McCarthy is not impressing this season and Derbyshire just hasn't quite made that jump yet. The thing he really lacks is pace. This is the thing Blackburn have been missing since Bellamy left. It makes such a difference to a team around the middle of the table- it is just that little bit extra sometimes and this is what Cisse has shedloads of. Don't forget, he has been in the French National Squad for quite a few years now and they are much more blessed than England are in terms of strikers.

Sidwell would be good as well. He has enough metal about him to give us some edge and enough skill to open defences up on occasion. With Bentley supplying Roque, Sidwell and Reid (if he returns to his previous form) providing some meat in midfield and pace from Cisse, we would look much more threatening. The defence would be tightened up as well as a lot of our slackness has come through midfield. McCarthy and Derbyshire (two finishers) would be battling it out for the bench and a first-team spot when either Roque or Cisse was either injured or out of form. Additional pace could be introduced throughout the season in the form of Treacy. We would also still have Dunn and Tugay on the bench to open up stubborn defences and Oojier to cover all along the backline in case of injury. Well maybe not left-back, but we have Berner there.

Hughes shouldn't buy too many players. Fans are naive to assume that a quick-fix is needed in January. Stability is more important and lots of new faces can upset the changing room atmosphere- one of the only things we seem to have going for us at the moment. The only problem is that, even with the money earned from the sales of Savage and Roberts, I still don't see where we would get the money needed to sign those two.

Why not look at Mifsud? Bags of pace and can obviously score against Premier league teams. Not only did he get 2 against us, but also scored both goals against Man Utd.
