Blackburn midfielder Robbie Savage insists Wales under John Toshack stand no chance of qualifying for the 2010 World Cup.
Wales' Euro 2008 qualification hopes all but ended by their 2-0 defeat to Germany, leaving them stranded on seven points, 15 behind the group leaders.
Savage, who last played for his country in 2005, said: "John Toshack told us to judge him after the European qualifying games. The truth is we have gone a long way backwards.
"I do hope he doesn't start the we'll make it to South Africa' stuff because that would be utterly ridiculous and we all know it."
He added: "There's more chance of me flying Concorde to the moon blindfolded than there is of you taking Wales to the South African World Cup.
"I do hope we aren't going to get a load of stuff about how Wales will qualify for South Africa.
"It's not going to happen and as a Wales fan I'm as dejected as the rest of the nation. Only 25,000 turned up for a qualifier against one of the world's best teams - that tells you everything.
"Just a few years ago under Mark Hughes we beat Germany in a friendly at the Millennium Stadium in front of 75,000 - that tells you how far we've sunk."

Why is he saying anything at all?? Even if he is p*ssed off with the situation he should still be wanting the best for his country and that means qualifying for the Euros. He should take note of Bentley's attitude, when he wasn't in england squads of teams he always said that he just wanted england to win first and foremost and if he could help that then all the better. If i was a player in the wales squad i'd be livid with him...

Things are going great for us at the moment, but over the years we've all had a moan (as long as it's not during the match) and this is him having a moan about his national team, and quite rightly. I get the feeling that the players probably agree with him. I'm sure they would prefer to be playing in front of 75,000 partisan Welshmen as they were just a few short years ago. If a manager was strangling the life out of my team like that, I would be shouting from the rooftops - but not being heard.

Jay wrote:I think its obvious he does want the best for his country, its just tha it isn't going to happen with Toshack in charge. Savage should have played for Wales - on that point there is no debate. Toshack left him out because Savage remembered what a mockery Toshack made of Welsh Football when he resigned after 41 days in charge and then went on to criticise Mark Hughes tenure as Welsh manager, despite Hughes taking Wales to within one game of a major championship. Toshack is still living on past glories of his time at Real Madrid. Personally I don't think he could manage a ****
