STEVEN Gerrard remains in contention to make his Liverpool return either against Burnley on Wednesday or against Blackburn Rovers on Sunday.

Liverpool host the Clarets in the Premier League in midweek before entertaining Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup quarter finals at the weekend.

Gerrard has been on the sidelines recently with a hamstring injury but is closing in on a return to action.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers said: "He's coming along very well. He's building up strength in his hamstring.

"He's been outside, so he's working very hard, and we hope that in the very near future, he'll be back and available."

Asked if the matches against Burnley or Blackburn would come too soon for Gerrard, Rodgers said: "We'll see."
