BLACKBURN Rovers boss Gary Bowyer would have ‘no problem whatsoever’ in selecting want-away top-scorer Rudy Gestede for Saturday’s FA Cup clash with Swansea City.

Gestede’s agent claimed on Tuesday that his client ‘really wants’ to sign for Crystal Palace after Rovers rejected a bid from the Premier League outfit for the 12-goal striker.

But Bowyer insists the comments made by Paul Wancier will have ‘no bearing’ on the squad he picks for the visit of the top-flight Swans to Ewood Park.

Gestede has trained as normal alongside his team-mates in the build-up to the fourth-round tie and his manager has been impressed by his conduct around Brockhall.

Bowyer said: “Rudy trained ever so well on Monday, on Tuesday and today and at this moment in time he will go into the squad against Swansea on Saturday.

“Rudy is a top player, a top pro and my admiration for him has grown over the last couple of days in terms of how he’s handled it all. There’s no problem whatsoever with Rudy being in the squad.

“The players are open to it, giving him friendly banter, and if he features he’ll be welcomed by myself and I presume the supporters as well.”

Wancier went to the national press to implore Rovers to ‘find a solution’ after they rejected Palace’s advances for Gestede.

But it has been made clear to him and the Benin international that Venky’s will not sell unless their valuation is met.

Wancier also said that while Gestede, who yesterday was linked with a move to QPR, remains ‘committed’ to Rovers, he wants to ‘achieve his ambition to play in the Premier League’.

Bowyer said: “We’ve just got to make sure we conduct our business correctly and get on with the job in hand which is focusing on Swansea.

“It would be interesting if another Premier League club comes in. What would his agent say then? He might have a choice then.”

And when asked whether he found Wancier’s comments unhelpful Bowyer said: “What we’ve got here is a good, honest group.

“We’re not hiding behind the speculation, there are open conversations between the players and myself. There’s banter flying around surrounding it because we aren’t ducking it.

“If it happens, if happens, and he would go with my blessing in terms of I’d be delighted for the boy that he’s gone to the Premiership.

“But if he doesn’t, I’d be happier because he’d still be with us.”

Bowyer is set to name a fully fit squad on Saturday after Tommy Spurr proved he is ready for a first-team return.

The left-back played 83 minutes for Eric Kinder’s development side in their U21s Premier League Cup win over Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Tuesday.

Bowyer said: “We’ll see how he is after the game and assess him in training on Friday but I certainly think he has done enough to make the squad.

“Then we’ll just have to see whether that is on the bench or starting.”

Spurr has not played a competitive match for Bowyer’s senior side since April because of groin injuries.
