DEFENDER Markus Olsson has handed Blackburn Rovers a boost ahead of tomorrow’s Championship clash with Wolves at Ewood Park (2pm) by signing a new one-year contract that will tie him to the club until the summer of 2016.

It is the Sweden international’s reward for the excellent performances he has produced since he stepped into the left-back breach vacated by long-term injury victim Tommy Spurr.

Olsson penned a one-year deal in the summer after impressing in the absence of Spurr in the final three matches of last season.

And the terms he penned included the incentive of a new one-year contract if he continued his fine form.

Olsson, who has made 23 league starts for Rovers this season, more than any other player, said: “It’s very pleasing.

“I’ve been happy with how I’ve played this season.

“I think I’ve done well in a lot of games but I’m always looking to improve my game, in every aspect, and get better.

“I’ll keep working hard in training and hopefully I can keep going.

“I’m enjoying my football right now. We’re playing well and when the team is doing well you want to be a part of it going forward.

“I’ve been here a few years now, so I definitely feel at home.”

Olsson, who arrived at Ewood Park in January 2012, missed last Saturday’s 2-1 FA Cup win at league rivals Charlton Athletic with a dead leg.

But he is fit to face Wolves tomorrow with Tommy Spurr and, most probably Jason Lowe, Rovers boss Gary Bowyer’s only absentees.
