GARY Bowyer admits he is facing the toughest team selection of his Blackburn Rovers reign.

Ahead of training this morning the only player definitely unavailable to the Rovers boss for Sunday’s Ewood Park showdown with Wolves is midfielder Jason Lowe.

Corry Evans and Alex Baptiste are back from suspension and ineligibility respectively while Grant Hanley and Josh King have overcome illness.

And in a further boost Markus Olsson has recovered from the leg injury that ruled him out of last weekend’s FA Cup win at Charlton Athletic.

Rovers made seven changes for the victory at the Valley and all the players he brought into the side made an impression.

Bowyer must decide whether to bring Evans, Baptiste, Hanley, King and Olsson straight back into his line-up along with top-scorers Rudy Gestede and Jordan Rhodes who were rested against Charlton – or keep faith with the players who got the New Year off to a perfect start.

It is a decision that will rank harder than he any he has had to make before his 88 competitive matches in charge of Rovers.

“At this rate, yes, it’s going to be my toughest selection,” said Bowyer, who has the option of including Tommy Spurr in his squad after the fit-again defender came through 65 minutes for the U21s on Monday.

“The level of performances from the likes of Chris Brown, David Dunn, Chris Taylor, Adam Henley and Matt Kilgallon on their recalls last week means that, yes, it will be the toughest selection in the 18 months we’ve been in charge.

“But that’s a positive as we would never have been in this position in the past.”

One player who has certainly given himself a chance of starting against Wolves is winger Craig Conway.

He built on his encouraging display in the 0-0 draw with Middlesbrough by setting up two-goal Taylor’s opener against Charlton, moving him to the top of Rovers’ assist charts with five.

“You can see his confidence is coming back to how it was before,” Bowyer said of Conway, who made 12 goals and scored a further four in 18 games during the second half of the 2013-14 campaign.

“Last season he was outstanding for us and I think this season he just put himself under a bit too much pressure and I think the expectation levels were higher.

“But he’s settled himself down and he’s hitting the levels he was last season.”
