BLACKBURN Rovers boss Gary Bowyer is set to be boosted by the return of at least four key players for Sunday’s Ewood Park showdown with play-off rivals Wolves.

Bowyer was down to the bare bones for last weekend’s FA Cup clash at Charlton Athletic with seven first-team stars sitting out the 2-1 triumph.

But Corry Evans and Alex Baptiste will certainly be back after missing the Valley victory through suspension and ineligibility respectively.

And they should be joined in the squad Bowyer names for Wolves by Grant Hanley and Josh King.

Tonsillitis ruled captain Hanley out against the Addicks while Josh King has not featured since scoring against Bolton Wanderers on Boxing Day because of the bug that spread throughout the Rovers camp.

But both players are on the mend and ready to add to their manager’s selection headache.

And it is a headache that will only grow stronger if Markus Olsson and Tommy Spurr declare themselves available for selection on Sunday.

A dead leg sustained in Rovers’ last league outing against Middlesbrough last month sidelined Olsson against Charlton.

But he has a chance of returning against Wolves while fellow left-back Spurr came through 65 minutes of Monday’s U21s Premier League encounter against Bolton’s young guns.

Bowyer, whose other injury concern is Jason Lowe, made seven changes for the win over the Addicks.

And he admits the players who came in from the cold, including two-goal hero Chris Taylor, have stated a firm case to keep their places against Wolves.

Bowyer said: “The lads who came in were absolutely magnificent and you could see they wanted to stake a claim.

“We feel we’ve got 22 cup finals between now and the end of the season and everybody wants to be part of it.

“Saturday was an opportunity for some players to put their names forward and I think a lot of them did that and gave us problem, which is we want.

“That’s the beauty of what we’ve been trying to build, you’ve actually seen that.”

It was confirmed yesterday that transfer-listed striker Leon Best is on his way back to Rovers.

Championship rivals Derby County have decided to cut short the 28-year-old’s season long-loan after they signed Darren Bent.

Best, whose last appearance for Rovers came on October 19, 2013, failed to score in 20 appearances for the Rams, 17 of which came from the bench.

Derby boss Steve McClaren said: “We have had a great relationship with Leon, he has been great. You cannot fault his attitude or his professionalism.

“He has been great in the dressing room, not been an ounce of trouble, got on with his work and always been there.

“But unfortunately it’s not worked out. We sat and had a talk about the future. He wants to play football and we couldn’t guarantee he would be playing that here regularly.

“He wanted that. I think he has got opportunities to do that. So in the best interests of both parties, a parting of the ways was inevitable.”

Best is the second senior player to return to Rovers this week after Josh Morris.

But Morris could soon be on his way back out of the club.

He is in talks to rejoin Fleetwood Town, where he has spent the best part of11 months, on loan.
