WITH a pub on each corner of the ground Griffin Park has long been a favourite jaunt for travelling supporters.

But will the 1,500 Blackburn Rovers fans heading to the home of Brentford on Saturday be toasting a victory or drowning their sorrows afterwards in The Griffin, The Inn, The Royal Oak and The Princes Royal?

Recent history would suggest the latter as the Bees have developed a reputation as being one of the most inhospitable hosts around.

They have lost just once at home in the Championship this season, to a then rampant Norwich City in September, and since then they have won five and drawn one.

In fact since the start of the 2012-13 season only six sides other than the Canaries – Yeovil Town, Tranmere, Doncaster, Leyton Orient, Rotherham United and Wolves – have beaten Brentford on their own patch.

Rovers, however, have not lost in five matches on the road and will be desperate to bounce back after Sheffield Wednesday became the first team in 10 games to beat them last weekend.

So Mark Warburton, who this week celebrates a year in charge of the Bees, will certainly not be underestimating Gary Bowyer’s boys.

“It’ll be a very tough game as they all are,” said Warburton. “They have a strike force of Rudy Gestede and Jordan Rhodes.

“You have the ability of Ben Marshall and Tom Cairney.

“The likes of Grant Hanley and Shane Duffy provide the experience at the back.

“We’re aware of their attacking prowess and their danger at set-pieces. We have to be very good. If we’re not, we’ll lose.

“Blackburn suffered a last minute defeat to Sheffield Wednesday and to lose in the last minute always hurts. For us, we’re well aware of the threat they pose.

“Gary Bowyer has done a fantastic job there after a period of disruption to organise that club.”

A victory for seventh-placed Rovers would move them above fifth-placed Brentford and back into the play-off positions.

It is the first league meeting of the teams since March, 1 1980. On that day Rovers ran out 3-0 winners at Ewood Park thanks to goals from Duncan McKenzie, Andy Crawford and Noel Brotherston.
