LIGHTNING struck twice as Jordan Preston stepped off the bench for the second game running to earn Blackburn Rovers a 2-2 U21s Premier League draw.

Just had he had done against West Brom at Leigh Sports Village one week earlier, the Scotland U19s international notched a late equaliser in last night’s clash with Wolves at the New Bucks Head Stadium in Telford.

Eric Kinder’s side raced into a third-minute lead after Devarn Green ran at the Wolves defence and unleashed a ferocious 20-yard shot into the net.

But within 10 minutes they were behind, Ibrahim Keita netting a quickfire double, the first from the penalty spot after Sam Lavelle had brought down Bradley Reid in the box.

And that was the way it stayed until four minutes from time when Preston, a 75th-minute replacement for Modou Cham, lashed home from a tight angle.

Rovers boss Kinder said: “We had a great start with Devarn smashing one in and we looked comfortable.

“Then all of a sudden Sam Lavelle is naive and gives away a penalty. Then we’re caught from our own corner and we find ourselves 2-1 down.

“We changed our shape at half-time and it was more of a midfield battle after that with neither goalkeeping having much to do.

“We stuck at it and didn’t give in and Jordan Preston pops up to smash one in with a good finish.

“I think the draw was a fair result. We need to work harder on keeping possession but I’m satisfied with our performance.

“We keep going when things aren’t going our way and we’ve now picked up points against West Brom and Wolves from losing positions.”
