IMPRESSIVE new Blackburn Rovers centre back Shane Duffy is remaining calm despite the club’s indifferent start to the season.

Rovers will go into the international break in 12th place in the Championship after a disappointing week ended with a frustrating 0-0 draw at home to Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

The result meant Gary Bowyer’s side, who went into the game on the back of a defeat to Rotherham United and a draw with Watford, took just two points from a triple header Duffy admits they wanted at least two wins from.

But the 22-year-old, who was named man of the match for the second time in four games since signing from Everton, insists there is no need to panic and that Rovers will improve once they resume their campaign away to Ipswich Town on Saturday week.

“It’s disappointing, especially who we were playing and the quality that we’ve got, as we should have been picking up at least six or seven,” said Duffy who, along with goalkeeper Jason Steele and midfielder Ryan Tunnicliffe, arrived at Ewood Park on transfer deadline day.

“But we’ve got to regroup and when the Championship comes round again be ready to go.

“We’re not panicking in there, we’re just disappointed, but as the manager says, we’re only six points off the top of the league, so a run of a few wins and you’re right up there.

“No-one is panicking, I think we’ve got one of the best squads in the league, we’re just waiting for it to click.

“There are three new players in there, we’ve only played a few times together, and we’ve had a fair few injuries as well, which doesn’t help, but I reckon after the international break we can get up the table.”

Duffy reckons Rovers, who were missing eight first-team players, should have beaten their revitalised Roses rivals given the number of chances they created, the best of which fell to Jordan Rhodes in the 61st minute.

But, on what was his 100th appearance for the club, Rhodes dragged his penalty wide of the post.

“It’s disappointing because we had so many chances in the first half and the second half to finish it off,” said Duffy, who is on standby for his country’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Gibraltar in Dublin on Saturday.

“But it was one of those days when it just wasn’t going to go in for us.

“Every other week it’s been them (the forwards) getting us out of trouble so we have to move on and take a lot of positives out of the clean sheet.”

It was Rovers’ second shut out of the season and Duffy, who completely nullified the threat of Grant Holt, stated it was the direct result of work on the training ground.

He said: “It was better (the defending) than it has been in the last few games and it’s what we were focusing on all week, really, we thought if we kept a clean sheet we would win the game but it wasn’t to be.

“I thought overall we were the better team and if we gel at the back we’ve definitely got the firepower up front to score.”
