LAURA Massaro begins her American adventure this week looking for more Stateside success.

The world number two takes part in the Carol Weymuller Open in Brooklyn before flying to Philadelphia for the US Open – two tournaments she has won in recent years.

The 30-year-old, who won two silver medals at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in August, begins in Brooklyn against England team-mate Sarah Kippax today. It is a tournament the top seed won in 2012 and was runner-up in 2010.

The former Albany High School pupil, who lives in Hoghton, will then fly on to Philadelphia for the US Open with her first round tie scheduled for October 12.

The competition, held at Drexel University, holds happy memories for Massaro having been crowned US Open champion in 2012 and was runner-up 12 months ago.

And with the Cleveland Classic also among her USA title collection – she beat world number one Nicol David in the 2011 final – Massaro admits America has been good for her.

But she is taking nothing for granted and points to last year’s semi final exit to Camille Serme in Brooklyn as the case in point.

“It definitely has been a happy hunting ground for me and I love playing in America,” she said.

“However, I have had a few bad defeats out there as well so I need to work hard to make sure I am on top of my game.”

Massaro travelled to America on the back of three weeks of good training – and also playing for the newly-formed David Lloyd Chorley team in the North West Counties Squash League.
