BLACKBURN Rovers boss Gary Bowyer believes the biggest danger to his side today will not come from any of Wigan Athletic’s multi-million pound signings – but from one his predecessors in the Ewood Park hotseat.

Wigan splashed out £10m over the summer on big-money captures like midfielders Adam Forshaw and Emyr Huws and strikers Oriol Riera and Andy Delort.

But Bowyer reckons their best signing will prove to be the one that did not cost them a penny – Eric Black.

Black was appointed as Latics boss Uwe Rosler’s first-team coach in July having previously been caretaker manager and assistant manager at Rovers before he was sacked along with boss Henning Berg in December 2012.

Bowyer has no doubt the vastly experienced Scot will be doing his level best to make life difficult for his former club in this afternoon’s Ewood encounter (3pm).

“Wigan have spent well and spent heavily this season,” said Bowyer.

“I think one of their transfer fees this summer cost more than what we’ve paid out during our entire time here so that shows the clout that they have got.

“But I think Uwe Rosler’s best signing has been Eric Black.

“He’s a top bloke. Ask anybody here and they will all speak very highly of him.

“What happened to him when he was here wasn’t right. That was my opinion at the time and it’s still my opinion now.

“I think it’s a fantastic addition from Uwe and a very sensible one too as Eric brings a wealth of knowledge and a fabulous sense of humour as well.

“He’ll have certainly done his homework on us and fed that to the Wigan players.

“It makes our life a little bit more difficult but I’m delighted he’s back in football because he’s a proper football person.”

Black will not be the only person coming face to face with former employers today.

Rovers new boy Ryan Tunnicliffe spent an unsuccessful loan spell at Wigan toward the end of last season.

And Tunnicliffe, who could make his debut after signing on loan from Fulham on transfer deadline day, said: “I’m just looking forward to playing, it doesn’t matter who it’s against, but obviously it’s against Wigan.

“It’s a local team and somewhere I’ve been so hopefully I get to play and I get to play well.

“I don’t expect to come straight into the side because we’ve not had a bad start.

“But if I can play, then buzzing, and if not, I’ll be ready if the gaffer needs me.”

Winger Ben Marshall said in yesterday’s Lancashire Telegraph that Rovers should be looking to take maximum points from the back-to-back home clashes against Wigan and then Derby County on Wednesday.

And Bowyer said: “We go out to try and win every game, that’s the mindset we try to send the players out with, and I’m delighted that Ben is talking like that.

“But we know it’s going to be a tough game so we’ve got to try and dominate from the off and play our game.”

Meanwhile, Rovers will today announce the appointment of former Notts County, Derby and Aston Villa striker Tommy Johnson as the club's new head of player recruitment.
