ACCRINGTON Stanley crashed out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in controversial fashion tonight.

James Beattie's side, who are still waiting for their first win of the season, went in front through Marcus Carver.

But they fell behind after Antony Sweeney equalised and then set up Kyle Dempsey to put managerless Carlisle in front.

And the Cumbrians, who sacked boss Graham Kavanagh after Saturday's 5-0 defeat at Cambridge United, sealed their maiden victory of the campaign when Billy Paynter headed in despite the fact the well travelled striker looked offside.
