GARY Bowyer will utilise the loan market in a bid to bolster his small Blackburn Rovers squad.

Bowyer has not completely ruled out paying a transfer fee for the first time this summer before the window for permanent signings slams shut at 11pm on Monday.

MORE TOP STORIES:

But the Rovers boss, who returned from India on Tuesday following talks with Venky’s matriarch Anuradha Desai, admits it will be difficult unless he can find players of the calibre of Rudy Gestede and Craig Conway for similarly knockdown prices.

That is why Bowyer has set his sights on making loan additions – and in all likelihood from Premier League clubs.

“We’re still looking to bring in one or two loans and we’ll keep working on that,” said Bowyer, who managed to sign Conway and Gestede from Cardiff City for a combined fee of around £300,000.

“I wouldn’t say it’s out of the question (making a permanent transfer) and if the right one came along at the right price – like a Rudy or a Craig – then that would be up to me to bang the drum and throw my case forward.

“So I wouldn’t say no but if we can get a loan in that would be slightly better in terms of the finances because you’ve not got the outlay of a transfer fee.”

This week the holding company behind Rovers posted a £36m loss for the year ended March 31, 2014.

But that has not prevented the club’s owners Venky’s from rejecting a bid in excess of £10m from Hull City for Jordan Rhodes.

Hull boss Bruce suggested on Wednesday that Rhodes was ‘disappointed’ that he had been denied a chance to move to the Premier League outfit.

But yesterday Bowyer attempted to draw a line under the episode and stated that it was business as usual for his star striker who, fresh from being told by Venky’s that they were not willing to sell, set Rovers on their way to a 3-2 home win over Bournemouth last Saturday.

“The club issued a statement from the owners regarding the Jordan situation and as far as I’m concerned, having spoken with Jordan, that’s the end of it now,” said Bowyer, whose side head to Wolves tomorrow.

“If Jordan’s head had been turned he wouldn’t have produced that finish he did on Saturday.

“He’s worked hard again this morning, he’s accepted the decision and now he’ll go about doing what he does best.”

Rovers winger Josh King, meanwhile, could be set for an appearance at Wembley on Wednesday after being called into the Norway squad for their international friendly with England.

Norway and King then take on Italy in Oslo on September 9 in a Euro 2016 qualifier.

it really is quite remarkable how much we paid in total for Rudy, Conway, Cairney and Evans. it would be hard to find too many better combined deals in terms of value and quality.
it would be too much to wish for to land another equally cut-price masterpiece, but with FFP threatening other clubs, you never know.
clearly everyone at the club knows we need to strengthen in defence. but i think the loan market is going to be extremely competitive this year - again because of the effect FFP is having on a range of clubs.

I never like reading Gary Bowyers comments! "Jordan has accepted the decision"
He makes it sound like he wanted to leave, even if that was true surely don't say that to the media?
Especially after Steve Bruce's disrespectful comments saying Jordan would be disappointed!
I may be totally wrong but I think if it was up to bowyer Jordan Rhodes would be lining up for hull this weekend! Thank you venkys!!

I'd love the LT to get some more information on Michael Keane. Its clear GB wants him back. So surely there must have been conversations with Man U. Come on LT, is it dead?? Go and ask the question please!! In my opinion Michael Keane was one of the main reasons we went on the unbeaten run at the end of last season.

Just looking at the table and noticed Wolves have only scored 3 and conceded 1 so far. Where as we're scoring and conceding for fun! Should make it a good game! Tough to call!

Sounds to me like there is money there from Venkys if Bowyer finds the right player at the right price in the next few days, but if he can find a similar player on loan then he will do that instead to save the money for FFP considerations.

Thank you Venkys for rejecting the bid(s) from Hull. A big slice of respect earned from me for this. Standing up for the club and keeping our prized asset in the face of Premier League interest. Jordan Rhodes has conducted himself brilliantly too. Obviously happy at Rovers otherwise he would have pushed for a move and wouldn't have performed against Bournemouth last week. Onwards and upwards.

Bruce said Rhodes was disappointed he was denied a chance to leave. Let's get it straight, if a player decides he want's to leave a football club he leaves, contracts aren't worth the paper they are written on. It's only when a club want's to get rid of a player under contract that the contract comes into force.

It would be interesting to read a statement from Jordan himself regarding all this, seeing as it keeps being brought up over and over.

As has already been stated above, I get the feeling Bowyer may have been willing to let him go to strenghen elsewhere, hence all the reported confusion surrounding the original Hull offer until Venkys stepped in.
Are they finally beginning to listen to the fans?... as I cant believe I just wrote that!

If Bowyer has targets then he is right to keep quiet about it whenever possible until a deal is done.

Playing this out in the papers only ends in people looking as childish as Bruce does now.

Keeping Rhodes against his will is a surefire way to destroy morale within the camp. Although he's putting a brace face on it Rhodes must be gutted to have been prevented from making the step up to Premier League level and should he suffer injury who's to say that opportunity will ever come his way again. Hopefully he stays free of injury and we get the maximum amount possible for him asap.

League 1 certainty, 20 point deduction, ground repossession, Rhodes to be sold on the cheap, Singh to be manager, stripped of Premier League title because it just wasn't fair, Bonleh to hold their own in Prem? Whatever.

Of course there is an element of truth in what you say.
Any half decent manager would think about cashing in a " star' to strengthen the team in other areas and I am sure it crossed GB's mind at least once...but very early in the JR saga GB spoke to Radio Lancs and said that if it was up to him he would not sell..
So I think the Venkys were the ones that thought about it and listened to the offers from Hull, but were turned round by Shaw and GB?
We will never know but however it was arrived at, it was and is a good decision for many reasons , actual and psychological.

The play offs is too much of a lottery we have to aim higher.

Hopefully he stays free of injury and we get the maximum amount possible for him asap.
Did you ring up Jordan yourself to ask him if he wanted to go to Hull? Where was his transfer request and the players have been talking about how Rhodes staying has made them want promotion even more. Can you make more predictions because nearly the exact opposite happens every time.

Listen R Sole, if Rhodes HAD wanted to leave, he'd have submitted a transfer request, which he is perfectly entitled to do so. Proof, if any more was needed, that you are an absolute TOOL!

All Jordan has to do is issue a statement to the fans that he is happy to stay and help the team gain promotion. He doesn't have to mean it!
Again ?
If that's what it takes.
And then have all the hysterics on here claiming 'he doth protest too much" ?

The guy has been 100% professional so far, I trust him to do the right thing, just smile and smack the ball in the net again tomorrow.

Spot on
I don't get your reasoning for that comment?? Why would GB want to get rid of the lad.... He is one of GB's best chances of giving himself a long career as a manager....

On the other hand, the owners would get all of the money and decide if any went back for player funds, so if anyone would want him to go it would be them....

Basically, a silly comment and reading too much between the lines

Am quite shocked that Bowyer made those comments. Rhodes is happy at Rovers and does not wish to leave. End of story.

I don't know much about the lad, is he a central defender nick? I hope so. Our defending, especially the last 20 minutes, is what's gonna bite us on the a55 unless we learn to close up games and shut shop.

We could do with another centre half and Michael Keane back for a full season.
