IT is strange how the selfie is now the thing to do at the most lavish of parties.

If one is to be quite honest then the selfie did begin life as something individuals would put up on those chat forums.

These chat forums would normally have several hundred single males on them. The females if they had any sense would not post their pictures online. Those that did posted a picture of someone else.

Men though are not so creative and thought a selfie would suffice. The chat forums are still around of course but back then the forum was ‘the’ place to be.

The only other place I ever saw a selfie was when I viewed a mugshot on a matrimonial site. Normally, not always a moustache and normally and not always too close to the camera.

The best selfie would normally be a screen grab of a man sat in his bedroom.

Yes, this was the selfie as we knew it.

The single man sat at home trying to look cool trying his best to disguise the pink flower wallpaper.

Some people tried to hide the background in case it looked cheap and nasty. You can’t look cool whilst sat at a desk – it simply is not possible, ask David Cameron.

Facebook kind of changed all that and the selfie became a little more acceptable.

Twitter of course took the selfie to whole new level.

The selfie had already arrived well before the Oscars.

The Oscars though now means that almost every other party this year will see celebrities lining up to pose for a selfie.

As soon as the famous start posting selfies and those pictures begin to appear in the mainstream press you can rest assured the selfie will lose its street cred and this time next year the selfie will be dead.
