Now is the chance to have your say on proposed changes to the county council's home-to-school transport policy.

Lancashire County Council is currently consulting on proposals that would come into effect from September 2008.

Many of the changes are the result of new laws which offer additional school transport support for parents on low incomes, whose children are eligible for free school meals or parents receiving the maximum amount of working tax credit.

These changes are included in the new policy and it is explained how the county council will assess these cases.

The proposed policy explains how transport is considered for co-parenting families where children divide their time between separate households, and gives deta! ils of how the suitability of walking routes to schools are considered.

The policy also explains when the county council might use its discretion to offer school transport, such as when a child has had an accident and cannot attend school.

If you would like to comment on the proposals you can download a copy of the policy and a summary of the proposed changes from the county council website by clicking the link below www.lancashire.gov.uk

Any responses should be emailed to transport.appeals@ed.lancscc.gov.uk by 20 June 2008.
