TWO brothers have teamed up with friends for a mammoth walking challenge in a bid to fulfil the lifelong wish of their late mother.

The team, including Andrew and Fred Procter, will walk 70 miles in three days between every Lancashire League Cricket ground in memory of Jean Procter, 70, who died last October.

Mrs Procter was a lifelong member of Rishton Cricket Club and always dreamed of being able to afford to buy the club a new electronic scoreboard.

They are now bidding to raise £12,000, to split equally between the club and Macmillan Nurses, the charity that provided care to Mrs Procter as she battled cancer.

Andrew, 37, a former club wicket-keeper, said: “Mum had always said that if she was ever to win the lottery, she would buy the club a new scoreboard.

Sadly she never did win the lottery and equally she will never see the scoreboard. This sponsored effort aims to provide as a lasting legacy to her.”

The team, Andrew, Fred, Lee Sawyer, Ian Hargreaves and Grant Roberts, will visit all 14 grounds of thef the Lancashire League over the Easter weekend of April 22 to 24.
