A ROSSENDALE band whose members have an average age of 46 are set to release their debut single this month.

After 12 months of solid gigging, ICE are confident their upcoming single ‘Look Into My Eyes’ will cement them a place in the music chart.

The unconventional group have already featured on BBC Radio Lancashire and have secured solid online reviews.

Lead singer Janie Britton, 41, a programme manager from Stacksteads, said: “We’re out to prove that you don’t have to be a blonde, 18 year-old, Barbie-like model to succeed in the music business.

“Some of the best music comes from experience and a pure unadulterated passion for music.

“For us the music is the most important thing.

“OK, we’re not likely to grace the cover of Vogue magazine but we are keen to show that image is not everything.”

The single, mixed in at an Accrington music studio, will be launched at Pulse Cafe Bar in Todmorden on Saturday, November 21.

Lyrics in the quartet’s debut single question the western world’s obsession with celebrity culture.

Other members of the band include web designer and guitar teacher Paul Britton, 48, from Stacksteads, Guy Percival, 46, from Water, a manager at Manchester University and Lynn Monk, 51, an administrative assistant from Accrington.

Though ICE do not fit the image of a typical new group, the four friends have already performed at the Manchester Apollo and supported Tom Hingley, formerly of the Inspiral Carpets.

Janie said: “It is unusual for a band of our age to be releasing a debut single.

“But we don’t see why that should be a barrier to our band.”

“Hopefully our fans and the radio stations will back us, bringing that ultimate goal of chart success that little bit closer”.
