ACCRINGTON Stanley chiefs have revealed they are in talks with a number of potential stadium sponsors which will see the Crown Ground get another new name.

The move comes after bosses at coach company, Fraser Eagle, announced they were looking to end their sponsorship of the League Two club’s ground, three years into a five year deal.

The firm said it was also due to discuss its sponsorship of the Fraser Eagle Riverside Stand at Blackburn Rovers’ Ewood Park in the coming weeks. A five-year deal was signed in 2007.

The Padiham-based company laid 50 staff of this week as a result of the credit crunch and is looking to cut costs by severing ties with Stanley and its Fraser Eagle Stadium.

But Rob Heys, Accrington Stanley chief executive, said the club was pursuing a number of different alternatives.

He said: “We have got a couple of options and we should know soon whether we can do something with them.

“It was a five- year agreement with Fraser Eagle and there are still two years left to run on that, but we would like to find a solution that suits every one.

“At the same time we have budgeted for that money from Fraser Eagle, but as long we can find some one to take over the deal we can come to some sort of agreement with them.”

Mr Heys said he spoke to Fraser Eagle bosses earlier this month about their desire to end their involvement in the club.

The decision has been prompted by the current economic climate which has hit Fraser Eagle’s business hard and led to the staff cuts and closure of its Fraser Eagle Cars division.

Kevin Dean, Fraser Eagle managing director, said: “We want to work with the club and will provide transport for the remainder of the season.

“We told them it would be in their own interests to find a new ground sponsor from next season.

“We have been their shirt sponsor and now are their ground sponsor, but we have asked them to release us from that agreement.”
