DIANA Vickers’ family have thanked Lancashire people for voting her through — but said criticism from X Factor judges had left them ‘very stressed’.

The Westholme pupil won through to the semi finals of the ITV talent show on Saturday.

But the 17-year-old was criticised by the judges. Louis Walsh said she was the weakest of the remaining female contestants and questioned why Diana had not danced during her time on the show.

Danni Minogue told her to put more passion into her performances, while Simon Cowell criticised Diana’s first performance.

Earlier on in the show the judges had nothing but praise for Diana.

And her family said they were feeling the tension as the competition built to its climax.

Her mum Anne Vickers, who Diana lives with in Accrington, said: “We’re feeling very stressed out.

“But the fans who put her through have been absolutely amazing . We have been overwhelmed by the support and love they have shown her.

“She is a Lancashire girl and the people of Lancashire are coming through for her.

“For someone so young, she has done so well.”

Her dad Eddie Vickers, of Blackburn, said: “It is getting tight now. The last four are all exceptional this year.

“We want to thank everyone for their support and we hope it continues.”

Saturday was Britney Spears night. Diana performed the American singer’s I’m, Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman. Later, she did REM’s Everybody Hurts.

For the first time in the competition this year, the results were entirely down to the public vote.

Spaniard Ruth Lorenzo was voted off, despite being praised by the judges for both her songs.

Diana was straight back into rehersals this morning as she prepares for next Saturday’s show.

Good on you girl.

It's just a shame we only get American and Canadian Idol over here in Ottawa.
Remember your roots and where you come from if you make it, and don't let stardom go to your head.

I am afraid that the judge were right about Diana, her performance was awful, and she just has to accept it.I think her performances are getting worse.
There are a lot of angry people commenting on the x factor posts, about her, a few even said that if she wins they will never watch x factor again, a couple of others said that they want her out now, because she should have been voted out, erlier and Ruth should have stayed in.It is obvious who is the better singer,Ruth of course.

I dont watch it much but the young lad is quite good, as is the black girl, they both deserve to be in the final.

Yes, Alexander is probably the girl you are talking about, she is really very good, the routine's that she does are great too.
Eohgan the Irish Lad sings very well too, and i agree, tht both he and Alexander should be in the final.

Louis Walsh is like a dog with a bone!! every week he goes on about Diana not dancing. The songs that were chosen for her were not dance tracks apart from CALL ME but she could hardly dance in roller skates.
She is 17 years old and likes to party so i am sure she can dance.Diana has a huge following of people who support her and like me vote for her every week, so her family have no need to feel stressed ,we WILL get her through to the final.COME ON DIANA!!!! YOU GO GIRL!!!!! DANCE YOUR WAY TO THE FINALS!!!!!

Its a singing competition NOT a dancing one....!!!

Diana's 1st performance was poor, but she made up for it in her second and deserves the right to be in the semi-final.

I am a big fan of diana, i dont think she will win like when you have the likes of Alexandra in the competition but it is a good experience for her and she will become a recording artist regardless of the outcome on this show.

Eogan was weak, that is why Simon put massive background singers behind him which dround his singing out, just like he did on Take That week - At least Diana has no gimics behind her helping her sing.

Gutted Ruth went, i though she was brilliant but Alex will win hand down.

Diana was shocking on saturday night and her true talent is now showing.
The judges were critical and at long last spoke the truth.

what are people on about Diana is amazing!! she didnt dance cos its not a dance competition and shes not that type of artist. She has to be in the final cos shes the only one who is unique and different from everyone else... Go Diana!

Diana's second performance was worse than the first, her voice was so out of tune. I couldn't understand a word either, and when she had to hold notes this is when she was out of tune, it was all up and down, it sounded like someone in pain, not tuneful at all.
It is so obvious, how much her singing has deteriated.

Diana's performance on Saturday was appalling. Her second song was almost entirely out of tune.

And why does she have to sing and walk in such an affected way? That truly cannot be her own, natural singing voice - she's from Blackburn. She's not Irish. And she sings from her throat, which possibly explains why it has been giving her so much trouble during this competition. And she's not exactly shown much versatility, has she?

Everything about her is so utterly contrived, from her hand actions, to her walking (or is she climbing?), to her bare feet, to her "Irish" singing voice, to her hairdo.

On Saturday Ruth was amazing - she has a belting voice and such presence. Diana just does not compare with Ruth and Alexandra.

I totally agree with everything that you say about Diana, she does sing from her throat, and it must be put on, and she has done the same thing every week,
like the part about the climbing,
i thought Ruth was brilliant, what a tremendous voice she has, so why was she voted off? Alexander will win the contest, she is so natural, and her performances are perfect, she must work so hard at those routines she does,as they are spot on.

Charlie, I thought a public forum was a place where people can express all types of opinion. Just because others don't think Diana is the bees knees doesn't nake their copinions or comments less valid than your own.

Personally, I think Diana is sounding more and more like a bad Cilla Black impressionist each week. Her original quirkiness has been exagerated to the point where it has taken over and she now sounds false and out of tune. I know she is local but there are way better singers in the competition (and several much better singers ahve already gone out). I would be disappointed to see her win to be honest.

Ruth Lorenzo was magnificent on Saturday and should not have gone out of the competition.

If people dont like her thats fine but why do you feel the need to come on here and make bitchy comments?! I mean have you nothing else better to do?! Shes only a kid and doesnt deserve vicious and malicious comments, which are often fulled by jealousy.

I see no evidence of malicious or bitchy comments on this thread. The evidence seems to be more weighted against those that blindly extol Diana's virtues as the best thing since sliced bread when clearly her performances are beginning to dip in quality.

It doesn't make any difference how old someone is, on x factor, one way or another they will get comments about their performance if it is bad,and Diana's is getting worse, it is obvious to most people that she really does sing out of tune, and as David Burnley said, her singing does sound false, and exagerated, and she just doesn't look relaxed.

DavidBurnley, Burnley says...
2:29pm Mon 1 Dec 08

Charlie - people in glass houses and all that....

If you want to rely on being a member of the grammar police to deflect a dying argument, then I suggest you ensure your own grammar is impeccable. You made four glaring punctuation errors in your last post.

1. There should have been a comma after 'Oaks' in your first sentence.
2. 'Come on love!' is not a full sentence. It should have been followed by a comma as the first clause of the sentence that continued 'why don't you....'
3. I was always under the impression that the word don't contains an apostrophe. You obviously didn't go to the same school as I though.
4. Your last sentence starts with 'Why'. As that is an interrogative word, the sentance should end with a question mark.

So, come on love, sort out your own punctuation first.

To get back to the point.....

I've heard a number of people who originally thought Diana was fantastic and different say she's now boring..... the same week after week.

I'm sure she will have some sort of career in music because she clearly has a talent but I'm not sure she is ready just yet. I think her style and voice need to mature more and she needs to drop the gimmicky gestures and 'back of the throat slightly fog horn like' voice - or at least turn it down.

Alexandra often says she is glad she didn't get through the first time as she is now more than ready to meet the challenge. Maybe Diana should take a leaf out of her book.

charlie *, blackburn says...
3:34pm Mon 1 Dec 08

oh shut up Oaks 7 your pathetic!!

I think she will def have a music career at the end of it all. I hope so because I for one adore her! But I agree she still has a lot of maturing to do. She's only 17 and has a long way to go yet.

TheReason, Blackburn says...
4:13pm Mon 1 Dec 08

Hell yeah she'll have a career. Her online support is massive. Obviously I'm not on obout this site. You see, people are quick off the mark to have a go at people. Especially those that don't have a talent that matches. Although, many on this site do have a talent for ****.
Let's just see what happens after the show shall we? I for one, will be buying the debut album.
I might send a copy of the winning song (If diana wins) to Oaks 7 for Christmas.

I can't believe that people are still debating as to whether Diana has a future in the music industry - she is guaranteed a record deal after the show no matter what. The people that have been voting for her(and many that haven't) will be able to buy her music.
All those that don't like her will have to find another youngster who is trying to make something of themselves and try to knock them down instead.
It is definitely the worst element of being British - if you do well at anything someone will always try to take that away from you.
Good luck Diana - and don't worry you'll have the last laugh!

Para Handy, Blackburn says...

I don't have anything against a young person who wants a music career. I don't see age as an issue if the the person is brilliant at what they do.
However, I can't work out where Diana fits in. I've been watching her on youtube and she produces the same flat dire sounds, and dreadful diction, with all her songs. If you didn't know the words to the songs you'd be clueless as to what they were about.
I love the fact that she is quirky with her dress sense, it's great, but there's no way I could listen to her sing an album of songs.
I don't want Diana to win as Alexandra is the star of the show, in my opinion. No matter what she's been given she's hit the notes, danced, and told the stories of the songs through her great interpretation and passion.
However, I'm sure Diana will get lots of work from the X Factor once the tour is over as she obviously pleases the people who vote for her.

Totally,
If you read this paper you will see that i don't knock REAL talent for which some of our young people have had to practice, study and work damned hard for.

People with better voices than Diana can be found in pubs and clubs around the country who work hard for a living but don't feel the need to be famous or seek stardom.

Singing, if that is what you call it, like Diana is hardly being talented.

However she has the figure and looks to copy Twiggy and like i have said in the past she would be great for childrens TV.

charlie *, blackburn says...

Blondie
Yes there are people who sing in clubs around the country who work very hard and don't feel the need to seek stardom. But if everyone was not as ambitious as the likes of Diana, then we would have no music or artists to listen to! So instead of knocking her for aiming high you should applaud her for having the courage to give it ago.
