YOUNGSTERS at a Hyndburn school have found a novel use for empty milk cartons.

After a term of working on an eco project learning about the Arctic and Antarctic, pupils at St Nicholas Church of England Primary School constructed a giant igloo in the middle of their classroom.

The Year One pupils at the Church school spent weeks learning about the frozen areas of the globe.

The project ended when the 29 pupils in teacher Andrea Mackey’s class appealed to the rest of the school for empty milk cartons from home and they used them to construct an ‘igloo’ helped by teaching assistant Carol Lynn.

Mrs Mackey, said: “During our Poles Apart project the children learned all about the Northern Lights and the animals which live there.”

Parents were invited to see an exhibition.
