A NEW bar to be opened in a former arcade in Accrington has been given the green light by planners.
The former Piggy Banc Amusements arcade, in Blackburn Road, will now be refurbished by applicant H2O Bars Limited.

In a design and access statement, the company revealed that while musical entertainment will be hosted at the bar, sound pollution “will be controlled by means of high-performance openings in the frontage along with acoustic measures”.
It said: “We believe the main proposed alterations at 52 Blackburn Road will act greatly to improve the visual aesthetic of the premises compared with that which is currently in place. We also believe it will provide a place where people can go in the evening, and create a new vibrant zone in the town.”
Granting planning permission for the change of use and changes to the shop front, the council said work must start within three years, be carried out in accordance with the plans lodged, and that said work cannot start until a soundproofing plan scheme has been submitted to and approved by planners.
Noise from ventilation and extraction systems must also remain 3dBA above background levels.
