A HYNDBURN uniform company, recently chosen as an official supplier to Team GB for the Olympic Games, is profitable for the first time in nine years, bosses said.

Simon Jersey chiefs have announced their return to profitability in the first nine months of this year after the appointment of a new management team and a restructure of the business.

The company, which supplies off-the-shelf and bespoke uniform solutions and was recently chosen as an official supplier to Team GB, was acquired by entrepreneur David Ross in January.

Following an operational and financial restructure, the business, which is based on Altham industrial estate, returned to profit for the first time in nine years by achieving an operating profit of £58,902 in the nine months to the end of September.

The trading figures include the losses of £472,000 made between January and March, before the restructure took effect, meaning the business therefore achieved an operating profit in the six months to the end September of more than £500,000.

The restructure of the company in February involved a number of changes to the leadership team, including the appointment of James Saunders as managing director, previously operations director, and Victoria Rayment as financial controller, previously in a commercial finance role at the company.

Kerrie Medlicott was also appointed as marketing director in May to implement a new marketing strategy and oversee product innovation.

Sector-specific teams have also been created within the business to focus on key markets including hospitality, healthcare, retail, transport and the public sector.

The results, bosses said, provided a platform for the company’s future plans, which include investment in the product range, developing the customer purchase experience and increasing distribution to allow further growth.

Mr Saunders said: “We have ambitious plans for the company.

“The fact that we have delivered a full trading year operating profit gives us confidence that we have a solid foundation for growth.

“We have also won some incredible new business this year, including becoming the first corporate wear provider to supply Team GB for Rio 2016.

“The drive and vision of our leadership team, coupled with the energy of all of our people puts us in the ideal position to build on our success in 2015.”
