A 23-YEAR-OLD man, who admitted he ‘didn’t know when to stop’, went on a 48-hour drinking binge to celebrate his birthday.

His partner eventually found him in a town centre pub at 10.15am and, when she challenged him, he assaulted her. Benjamin James Jamieson, 23, of Haworth Street, Rishton, pleaded guilty to assaulting Kirsty Barlow. He was made subject to community supervision for 12 months, and ordered to pay £50 costs.

Philippa White, prosecuting, said Jamieson had gone to Blackpool with friends. When he should have been back to look after their child, he was still missing and Miss Barlow was eventually told he was in the Sun pub, in Blackburn town centre.

Mrs White said: “She parked outside the pub and there was an exchange of words as she sat in the car. It became heated and he reached into the car and grabbed the cord of her hooded top and drew it tight. She said her neck was burning.”

She bit Jamieson’s hand to try and make him let go. She was then punched on the side of the head, before Jamieson spat in her face.

Angela Rossi, defending, said: “He needs to change his ways if he is to continue in this relationship. He has no recollection of the incident.”
