Accrington Stanley fans receive free FA Cup tickets
12:00pm Monday 6th January 2014 in Hyndburn
ACCRINGTON Stanley boss James Beattie arranged four tickets to an FA Cup tie for fans left disappointed after their game succumbed to the weather.
Harie Seed, 24, and three friends found out the match between Stanley and Portsmouth had been cancelled on Friday once they had already travelled down to the south coast.
The friends had made the 270-mile trip before they found out that a waterlogged pitched meant Saturday’s game at Fratton Park would not go ahead.
Keen not to waste the journey, Harie tweeted Mr Beattie, and asked whether he could arrange with tickets for Burnley’s match against nearby Southampton.
To Harie’s surprise, the former England international not only replied, but agreed to grant his request.
Harie initially asked the Accrington boss for hospitality tickets, and although Beattie said he couldn’t manage those, he did get them access to the game, which saw Burnley lose 4-3.
Harie said: “We travelled down on Friday morning. We got about 56 miles away and found out it was called off.
“We were a bit gutted at first, but we had the hotel booked and thought we’d make the most of it.
“We had a couple of friends going to the Burnley game, so I thought I’d tweet James Beattie.
“I didn’t think he’d actually do anything about it, but he said ‘how many are you looking for?’ “He messaged me the following day saying ‘it’s all been sorted, hope you enjoy the game’.
“We met up with a few friends, and it was a good do all round.
“It shows there are still some genuine blokes in football. He’s a top man, and it was nice of him to go out of his way.”
