Abandoned Baxenden dog with 'horrific' wound put down

Blackburn Citizen: The spaniel had an infected leg wound, and her fur was matted with faeces The spaniel had an infected leg wound, and her fur was matted with faeces

AN ABANDONED dog found roaming alone in Baxenden, with a ‘horrific’ leg injury and fur matted with faeces, had to be put down.

The young female springer spaniel was discovered wandering in Manch-ester Road last Monday by two men who took her to the RSPCA Altham Animal Centre.

A vet who examined her found she was pregnant with two puppies.

She was suffering from an infected wound on one of her legs and, at first, it was thought she could be saved.

RSPCA Inspector Charlotte Booker said: “The vet said she had had the inf-ection for a while and that she had obv-iously been suffering.

“They thought it could be treated with a short course of antibiotics.

“But, by Friday, her condition got much worse over the week and, sadly, she had to be put to sleep.

“She just became too poorly. It’s really very sad.

“It was clear she hadn’t been living in a house, and looks like she had been kept outdoors.

“If a dog is lying in faeces, it will become matted in its fur.

“I can’t imagine she will have lived very far from where she was found wandering.

“It’s unlikely she will have lived outside Baxenden.

“We’re looking for anybody who might know anything about where she lived to get in touch with us.

“If we could trace any infor-mation on her, like who her owner was, then that would be great.”

Anyone with any information about the dog, or its owner, should call the RSPCA cruelty and advice line on 0300 1234 999.

Calls can be made anony-mously, and the line is open 24 hours a day.

Why can’t people realise that animals feel pain just like we do. If you have a pet please look after it. Please God whoever you may pretend to be, what reason was there to produce a so called ‘human race’ without feelings?

Thing is if people can be so cruel to animals especially as beautiful as a Springer (former owner) what would they be like with humans? It's only one step away.

I for one am in favour of the compulsory chipping coming in next year, but will it be policed? will people have their animals spot checked in the street, probably not I suspect. This poor girl probably never saw the light of day until now anyway, so it wouldn't help her or others like her sadly. Make it so you can't breed or sell a dog unless its chipped and ownership transferred immediately. if it is in your name, your responsible. no excuses!

Where does it say the word 'him' or even mention the owner was 'male?' anywhere in the article? Does the words stray mean anything to you?

Also, you are inciting people and knowingly doing so in your post to then give this imaginery 'male' owner a good kicking. Do you even know or understand how stupid a thing that is. Yes, it's a terrible thing to happen without a doubt but, really, to incite violence and encourage people to 'put down' is more than disturbing.

Do you not think there is far too much of this going on through the Telegraph pages as it is? Like giving people a good kicking. Is that it? Can't sort out things any other way.or what? Sat at home inciting someone to be 'put down'.Brave it isn't. Stupid yes. You don't have to live witht consequences of doing so, do you? But, oh no, let's kick people to death because they've done some imaginery and very often made up thing wrong because it makes people happy. Lets give that person a good kicking who just dropped that fag or can on the ground? Where does it stop? Do you even care? Would you be saying the same if it was a drug addict whom killed someone whilst cracked out on crack? Either way it should be seen as just plain wrong to incite people. It's a matter of perspective.

The other posters bleating on about 'humanity' this and that. Shall we say, the usual suspects? Suddenly find you care cos it's Christmas?

You all speak oif humanity .... Yeah, when it suits you. And only, then.

As for being arrested from that person in Clitheroe ... ditto.

PS I don't give a flying mince pie what you think of my comment. You don't know me and I think nothing of you. Bye.
