A TATTOO artist from Clayton-le-Moors has been leaving his mark for charity.

Lee Moore, of Moore Ink studio tattooed more than 25 people with star tattoos yesterday in aid of the charity Wish Upon a Star.

Customers paid £30 and chose from a set of tattoos drawn up by Lee, with £25 from each session going to the charity.

The 28-year-old from Warwick Street, Church, was joined by volunteers Matt Maloney, 21, and Jamie Nesbitt, 29, who helped out due to the high demand.

Tattoo-enthusiasts turned out in their numbers to support the event, with the tattoo artist overwhelmed by the support he received.

The father-of-one said: “We were going to open at 10am but we knew we’d be busy so opened up half an hour earlier and I'm glad we did.

“We had a constant stream of people coming in and there was always someone waiting.”

Lee was inspired to raise money for Wish Upon a Star after hearing about their work.

He said: “I heard about the charity and it really hit home. Having a five-year-old myself, you can really relate to the work they do and I thought it would be good to give something back.

“We chose Friday the 13th because it’s a lucky day for tattooists, even if it’s mostly unlucky for some.”

This isn’t the first time Lee has used his talent for charity. In 2010, he tattooed discounted charity badges onto customers in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Wish Upon a Star aims to make the dreams of children with life threatening illnesses come true.
