Hyndburn visitor centre to hold open day
11:45am Wednesday 4th September 2013 in Hyndburn
OSWALDTWISTLE’S Civic Arts Centre will celebrate its third birthday with an open day this weekend.
The volunteer-led centre will open its doors between 2pm and 4pm on Saturday to show off its facilities and various activities.
There will be several performances and birthday cake to celebrate the milestone.
Since opening in 2010, the centre has become the hub of arts in Hyndburn, with more than 650 people taking part in drama, dance, singing, music sessions and more every week.
The centre is run by a group of volunteers who make up the charitable organisation, Hyndburn Arts Trust. It is funded by the people who use the centre and by grants from organisations such as the Arts Council England and the Healthcare Lottery.
The centre’s creative director, Gayle Knight, said: “Three years ago we were in the depths of the recession and to open the centre was a risk. It has proved not only is it a success but it’s need in the area.
“Young people are really benefiting from it – already we have been able to give them employment and opportunities.”
