Darwen's long-running road works set to end Darwen's long-running road works set to end

A ROADWORKS hotspot is said to be drawing to an end.

Delays on and around the A666 in Darwen while National Grid carries out essential gas pipe replacement work is expected to end within a couple weeks.

National Grid has been using temporary traffic lights and information signs to help motorists and pedestrians.

Project engineer Paul Farrar said: “This new-for-old replacement work was absolutely essential and we would like to thank motorists for their patience while we have been on site.

“We are aiming to have dispensed with the traffic management measures by around Friday, September 28, which should allow traffic to move freely again.”

The new plastic gas mains are designed to last for at least 80 years once they are in the ground.

It was supposed to be for 5 weeks , its been a nightmare and the bridge repairs are still ongoing , surely they could work a bit harder and get the job done a bit sooner !

Thank goodness, I live on the A666 and this has been a nightmare. I'm a patient person but to have a massive hole right outside your house, which gets disturbed by passersby on a nightly basis, and all the parking bays filled with equipment leaving nowhere to park has quite frankly done my head in.

National Grid should be forced to resurface that properly and pay for i.e. Tarmac to re due work.
The council can easily prove they had i.e. Tarmac resurface the whole road professionally very recently.
The resurfacing that has been done is just paddy standard workmanship i.e looks slightly ok now but will start no doubt to sink in places.

One can appreciate the frustration of people living on the A666. Now that the schools are going back it will be more chaotic one would imagine for the next two weeks. What has bugged me is that there is still work going on at the bottom of Goosehouse. We even had Hollins Grove Street closed at one point. No is no excuse for this lack of planning between the two contractors and heads should roll somewhere along the line. To avoid the hold-ups we resorted to going up Marsh House Lane and using the Roman Road to get to Blackburn!! I had always advocated that Roman Road should be a designated "Outer Ring Road" but the last time I suggested that, the residents nearly blew me off the internet with protests so the less said about that, the better!!!

If it finishes on the 28th it will be 5 weeks from when they restarted the work.

The A666 works have never held me up for more than 15 minutes at any time of day. The bridgeworks at Lower Eccleshill are a different matter though. When will that work be completed?

Regarding the bridge at Lower Eccleshill Road - only in the UK does it take so long to get anything done. I reckon even the Spanish could have built it quicker, even if they had taken siestas!

Progressive Penguine writes that he/she has never been held up for more than 15 minutes at any time of day. Presumably he/she has sat up to that amount of time with his/her engine running pumping exhaust gasses into the atmosphere plus all the other cars/lorries, buses in the queue? No wonder the residents are fed up for the polution alone. This has gone on far too long. I came from Blackburn on Friday at 4.30pm and the queue stretched from the exit of the Services right up the A666. I diverted to try the Goosehouse option and the queue was from the Services right down to the roundabout. You can't win and it is an organisational disgrace.

These roadworks would have been completed much sooner if there were actually any work being done. I have been through the roadworks on the for the last 4 days and there has not been anyone working between 2.30 and 4 pm. I wouold also like to congratulate whoever made the decision to put roadworks at the bottom of Paul Rink way ensuring that there was no way out of Darwen without sitting in a jam. Roll on Saturday!
