Darwen recruiting a new town crier (From Blackburn Citizen)

• "Mrs Waring needs to step back and take a long look at herself. The post of Town Crier has a long tradition in this country. Her beef has always been with the uniform, and who supplied it and should control it.

  Woman. Its a four year old suit of clothes, made for a man who has done a lot for Darwen as town crier, without remuneration. Take the suit back if you will, bit I'll tell you something. You'll never get a man to fill Mr Meleady's shoes in this job, let alone the suit.
