TEACHERS sporting moustaches in all shapes and sizes had them shaved off yesterday to celebrate the end of a fundraising campaign.
Senior management and teaching staff from Darwen Aldridge Community Academy had been growing moustaches since November 1.
They were grown to raise money for Movember, a moustache-growing charity event held during November each year that raises funds and awareness for men’s health, in particular for prostate cancer.
And the 13 members of staff and sixth-form students took part in an official shave-off with barber Giulio Passerini.
A barber shop quartet were on hand singing their way through the event.
Assistant principal Howard McWilliam organised the event said: “We have always organised events around breast cancer and thought that this would balance out with those events.”
So far the school has managed to raise £800 but are hoping to exceed £1,000 after additional donations from the shave-off have been collected.
Principal Brendan Loughran said: “The whole event has been good fun for the staff and pupils have enjoyed watching our moustaches grow.”
