DARWEN MP Jake Berry organised a VIP tour for apprentices at metal fabrication firm WEC to have a look behind the scenes of Bentley’s headquarters.

Mr Berry was joined by a group of youngsters from the Junction Street firm as well as MD Steve Hartley and welding and engineering instructor Kris Mercer.

The group was given a behind-the-scenes tour of the luxury British car-maker’s design and manufacturing centre in Crewe.

Mr Berry said: “This treat for apprentices from WEC was an opportunity for them to see another international manufacturer applying the skills and knowledge they have already gained to the automotive industry. “The WEC apprenticeship is one of the most highly regarded in the country and this trip demonstrated how these highly skilled young people are at the start of a successful career in manufacturing which is applicable to any industry.

“It was great to be able to arrange this trip, we had a fantastic afternoon taking a behind-the-scenes look at the factory and it was enjoyed by all.”

Kris Mercer said: “Our apprentices really enjoyed the VIP Bentley tour as they saw the full production of the latest Bentleys followed by a visit to the museum.

“They were very impressed with the high level of craftsmanship on display and they were happy to get the chance to speak with Bentley’s own apprentices.

“This is another fantastic example of how Jake Berry works closely with our Training Academy to develop and promote apprenticeships. We’re looking forward to planning the next event.”
