A HIGH school in Darwen claims it has been largely successful in discouraging pupils from consuming high caffeine energy drinks.
Darwen Aldridge Academy and Sixth Form principal Brendan Loughran previously contacted parents seeking help on the issue as the school thought it was not healthy for children to consume excessive amounts.

In a recent letter to parents, Mr Loughran, said: “Last year I wrote to you with our intent to discourage student consumption of these caffeine based drinks.
“The response from students has been outstandingly positive.
“It is now extremely rare to ever see any student with this sort of drink.”
Caffeine is a diuretic that causes the body to eliminate water (through urinating), which may contribute to dehydration Experts say, to be on the safe side, it’s wise to avoid excessive caffeine consumption in hot weather, when kids need to replace water lost through sweating.
