DOCTORS are struggling to complete their patient consultations within the allocated 10-minute time slots, according to a senior Darwen GP.

At an NHS meeting this week, Dr Chris Clayton, of Darwen Healthcare, responded to concerns that GPs could not spend adequate time with patients with learning disabilities.

He said: β€œIt already takes longer than ten minutes to see people on average. And patients with learning disabilities can take three times longer.”

Dr Clayton is also chief clinical officer at Blackburn with Darwen Clinical Commissioning Group, and members said surgeries should work to provide adequate slots for those with complex needs.
