THE 12-year-old boy saved from Darwen Moors by Bolton Mountain Rescue Team is still recovering in hospital.

The team was called to the moors on October 28 after the boy was injured while mountain biking with his dad and brother.

And last week, medical equipment officer Nigel Booth, who was part of the rescue team on the day, received an update from the boy's mum.

The message said: "He was flown to Manchester Children's Hospital and we are still in hospital.

"He was in the intensive care unit for a few days and is now on a long-term neuro rehabilitation ward so it has been a very difficult time.

"We won't be home until goodness knows when as they say they don't know how long his recovery will take.

"Physically he will do well in time.

"It has been a very hard two weeks but thank you so much for all you and the team's efforts.

"They told us where and how the helmet was dented and the force of it hitting whatever meant if no helmet he would have died instantly.”

A spokesman for BMRT said: "The whole team membership is united in extending its wishes to the boy involved, his mother, father, brother and family, on a continuing steady recovery back to full health."
