A 40-YEAR-OLD woman assaulted her elderly mother during a ‘face to face’ over her behaviour towards her 15-year-old grandaughter.

Blackburn magistrates heard Annmarie West locked the door and unplugged the phones before confronting her mum because she wanted her full attention.

And she told police she had just wanted her to be a mother and grandmother like every other female.

West, of Hazel Avenue, Darwen, pleaded guilty to assaulting Margaret West. She was made subject to community supervision for two years and ordered to pay 180 hours unpaid work and pay 100 compensation.

She was also made subject to a restraining order for two years which prohibits her from approaching her mother's house.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said Margaret West had been at her home with her daughter and granddaughter when there was an arguement.

West told police she wanted her mum to face the truth and accept what she had done wrong.

She said her mother was a "vile cow" and during the dispute twisted her arm and grabbed her face.

"Her mum said she was absolutely terrified during the incident, " said Miss Allan. "She wants a restraining order which prevents the defendant from going to her home address. That would mean she could maintain contact with her daughter but she will be able to feel safe in her own home."

Richard Prew, defending, said his client was ashamed of her behaviour on the day.

"There was a lot of pent up emotion which had built up over many years about her mother's controlling behaviour," said Mr Prew. "Mrs West senior was having a go at her granddaughter, in her face, pointing at her and my client started doing the same back to her mother."
