TWO women have completed a gruelling triathlon to raise money for treatment for a woman with an incredibly rare form of eye cancer.
Grandmother-of-two Patricia Morris was diagnosed with ocular melanoma – which affects between 400 and 500 people each year – in her right eye in 2010.
Her daughter, Kate Hargreaves, set up a campaign to try to raise £56,000 for Patricia to receive a pioneering treatment called TILS.
After hearing about the appeal, Michelle Neale and Sara Blackburn approached Kate and Patricia and offered to run a triathlon to raise money for the fund.
They set off on their challenge on Saturday, beginning with a 5km run around Entwistle Reservoir, before completing a cycle ride, and finishing up with a swim at Darwen Leisure Centre.
The women have so far raised just over £700 for the charity, and are hoping to bring their total up to £1,000.
Kate said: “What these ladies have achieved is phenomenal.
“Their efforts for our fund has been remarkable and we couldn’t be prouder.
“Also, we have to mention their fantastic families who showed amazing support.
“Truly wonderful people – thank you.”
